Jake Hanes Hauls in Weekly Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jake Hanes was responsible for six points per set in Ohio State’s 2-0 opening weekend, attacking .469 (37-7-64) in seven sets. His stellar performance was recognized by both the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (co-Offensive Player of the Week) and OfftheBlockBlog.com (National Opposite Hitter of the Week). Hanes was effective from the service strip as well, connecting on five aces during the 2019 season’s first week.

Hanes started ’19 by crushing 13 kills at a .611 hitting clip in a sweep over Charleston. He then came back the next night by lifting OSU in a four-set victory over Penn State. Hanes registered 24 of Ohio State’s 52 kills and 28.5-of-68 points after four aces and a block assist. Standing 6-foot-10, he also dug a team-high nine balls against the Nittany Lions.

Hanes’ 6.00 points/set and 5.29 kills/set paced the entire country during the season’s opening weekend.
