COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jaclyn Lee, a senior on the Ohio State women’s golf team, has elected to forego her final semester of eligibility and join the LPGA Tour. Lee, a native of Calgary, Alberta, placed sixth at LPGA Q-Series last month at Pinehurst.
“With mixed emotions we are saying farewell and the very best of luck to Jaclyn Lee who will be departing early from Ohio State for the LPGA Tour,” Therese Hession, Ohio State director of golf and women’s golf head coach, said Tuesday. “Jaclyn entered Ohio State ranked 622 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and in three and a half years quickly moved to the Top 20 in the world! We are thrilled for the opportunity ahead of her and are so proud she will have the opportunity to play with the best in the world and still complete her degree. We will miss her this spring, but are so proud of all she helped accomplish while at Ohio State.”
A second team WGCA All-American, first team All-Big Ten pick and medalist of the 2018 Big Ten Championships, Lee’s 71.14 scoring average was 11th nationally last season, breaking Allison Hanna’s previous-best of 72.58 by a Buckeye set in 2003-04. Lee concluded the 2017-18 campaign in a tie for fifth at the NCAA Championships last spring.
“This is not a decision I made lightly,” Lee said. “I’m extremely touched by all the support I have received from all parties involved in my decision. While my time at Ohio State is eventually going to come to an end, it’s bittersweet to be leaving the team a little early. I’m going to miss my Buckeye family but I’m also excited to start my new chapter.”
Lee competed in two tournaments for the Buckeyes this fall, notching a pair of Top 5 finishes. She took first in the stroke-play portion of the East & West Match Play Challenge in September at 4-under through two rounds and swept through both of her matches in match play. Lee then tied for third at 3-under at the Windy City Collegiate in October.
