COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio State women's golf team added another chapter to its storied history this weekend, capturing its 20th title at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational. Nellie Ong paved the way for the Buckeyes, securing a runner-up individual finish.
Ohio State opened the tournament with rounds of 295 (+7) and 294 (+6) on Friday, closing out the weekend with a 301 (+13). The Buckeyes included 34 birdies in their counted score.
Junior Nellie Ong was instrumental in leading the Buckeyes from start to finish. She set the tone early and maintained her consistency throughout the tournament, ultimately finishing as the individual runner-up at one-under par. In the final round, Ong carded a 76 (+4), highlighted by a big-time birdie on the final hole that solidified Ohio State's team win.
The Buckeyes' depth proved to be a key factor in the victory. Matilde Santilli led the supporting group with a final-round 74 (+2), while Mandy Song followed closely with a 75 (+3), and Sophie Eppelstun added a 76 (+4). All three players finished tied for 11th place overall, giving Ohio State a strong and balanced presence on the leaderboard. Kary Hollenbaugh contributed a 77 (+5) in the final round to round out the team scoring. Marina Joyce-Moreno also competed as an individual, posting a 79 (+7) in the final round to finish 18th overall.
With momentum from a successful home tournament, Ohio State now turns its attention to postseason competition. The Buckeyes will return to action April 24–26 at the Big Ten Championship in Los Angeles, California.
