Former Men’s Swimmer Qualifies For 2000 Olympics in Sydney – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State swimmer Mark Strahija (Zagreb, Croatia) qualified for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia on Aug. 13. At his home country’s nationals in Zagreb, Croatia, Strahija placed second with a time of 2:01.00 in the 200-meter backstroke.%^$
%^$He becomes the ninth swimmer to qualify for an Olympics under head coach Bill Wadley and the fourth-consecutive Olympics that Wadley has had a swimmer compete.%^$
%^$ While a four-time letterwinner at Ohio State, Strahija earned academic All-American, academic all-Big-Ten and OSU Scholar-Athlete honors. He also was named honorable-mention All-American and captured the Big Ten Medal of Honor his senior year. %^$
%^$ Current Ohio State swimmers Jason Fox (Sr., Goshen, Ind.) and Travis Carver (So., Overland Park, Kan.) also experienced successes at the U.S. Nationals in Minneapolis, Minn.last week. Fox placed 11th in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:06.00. Carver swam a personal best in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.60. %^$
