Buckeyes Welcome Stimmel, Lori Back for Preseason Scrimmage

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State saw two familiar faces on the opposite sidelines Saturday as it played its final preseason scrimmage inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Andrew Stimmel, who was a captain for the Buckeyes in 2010, and Bo Lori, also a captain and member of the 2017 team that played in the national championship game, matched wits with the Buckeyes in the final tuneup before the 2022 season officially begins next Saturday. Stimmel is in his third season as Marquette’s head coach while Lori was hired last summer as an assistant coach.
“It’s always special coming back here,” Stimmel said. “You walk into the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and while a lot of it has changed, the memories come flooding back. It’s been so rewarding as an alum to see Coach Myers take it to another level. And it’s a great lesson for my players today: if you do things the right way, you’ll get the results you’re looking for.”
Stimmel and Myers’ connections go beyond the college game, too. Myers tabbed Stimmel to be a part of his staff for the 2022 World Lacrosse Men’s U21 World Championship, which will take place Aug. 10-20, 2022 in Limerick, Ireland.
And while Lori was wearing Marquette blue on Saturday, he’s a Buckeye through and through. An Ohio native from Hudson, Ohio, Lori was a 2018 team captain who played in 49 career games. After his career, he immediately jumped into coaching, spending the 2019 and 2020 seasons at Virginia as a volunteer assistant coach before taking the same position with Ohio State last season. In June, Stimmel hired him at Marquette as an assistant coach.
“It certainly was a little weird to be on the opposite sideline today,” said Lori. “But what was really cool for me was to see the fifth-year guys – Jackson Reid, Evan Riss, Justin Inacio, Griffin Hughes, Colby Smith – lead the team. My last year was their first, and to see the growth in them over that time is really neat.”
