COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State is set to open the 2021 tennis season this weekend by hosting the Ohio State Invitational at the new Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The Buckeyes will host Big Ten rivals Illinois and Michigan.
The teams will contest singles and doubles matches throughout the weekend with no team scoring. Live video and live scoring will be available. There will be no public admission to this event.
These will be the first matches inside the phenomenal Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Ohio State will also host both the men’s and women’s ITA Kickoff events next weekend.
The Buckeyes return everyone from last year’s team that knocked-off a pair of No. 1 teams and was ranked No. 6 when the season was halted. Senior John McNally and sophomores Cannon Kingsley and Robert Cash were All-Americans last season and Kingsley was named the national Freshman of the Year.
Four Buckeyes are ranked in the preseason single rankings – Cannon Kingsley (5), John McNally (11), Kyle Seelig (25) and James Trotter (80). Three doubles teams also find themselves in the rankings as McNally and Robert Cash are No. 4, Trotter and Justin Boulais are No. 37 and Kingsley and Seelig check in at No. 51.
The remaining portion of the dual match schedule, with the exception of the ITA Kickoff Weekend and ITA National Team Championship, will be against Big Ten opponents.
