Ohio State travels to face No. 6 Baylor March 5
COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 1 Ohio State downed No. 24 Notre Dame 5-0 and Dayton 4-0 Sunday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
The Buckeyes are undefeated at 9-0 at home this season, they improved to 6-1 against Top 25 opponents after the victory over Notre Dame
Brandon Carpico led Ohio State with three total wins on the day, while Alexander Bernard led with two singles victories.
The Buckeyes increased their all-time records to 40-27 against Notre Dame and 8-2 against Dayton.
Next up for Ohio State is a road match at No. 6 Baylor at 7 p.m. March 5. The match will be played in Waco, Texas at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Facility. After Baylor, the Buckeyes will start Big Ten Play at Penn State on March 7 at noon.
Doubles
- Against Notre Dame, each Ohio State doubles pair got out to a 4-1 lead.
- Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin grabbed the first win for the Buckeyes in a 6-3 set. This was the pair's first time playing on court one in the dual season.
- Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo were leading 5-2 on court two before the Buckeyes clinched the doubles point.
- The Buckeyes dominated the doubles point against Dayton, taking two 6-1 victories on courts one and three.
- Carpico and Filin earned their second doubles win of the day, this time against No. 30 Kyle McNally and Sturle Skigelstrand.
- Jack Anthrop and Bryce Nakashima partnered for the second time this year on court three, they are 2-0 as a pair.
Singles
- The doubles momentum carried into singles for the Buckeyes with courts one, three, four and six all going up 2-0 in the first set against the Fighting Irish.
- No. 8 Aidan Kim secured the first singles point for Ohio State with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Notre Dame's No. 14 Sebastian Dominko.
- On court three, Preston Stearns earned the second singles point for the Buckeyes in a 6-3, 6-2 match.
- Ohio State clinched against Notre Dame on court five. Loren Byers found himself down 5-1 in the first set before clawing back to force a 6-6 tiebreaker where he went on to win 7-3. Byers started the second set up 3-0, totaling eight-consecutive games won. He finished the second set with a 6-3 victory, sealing the Buckeye victory.
- Seconds later, Alexander Bernard defeated Evan Lee on court six, making the final score 5-0. The victory marked his third singles win of the dual season.
- Against the Flyers, every Buckeye collected a first set win.
- Brandon Carpico and Alex Okonkwo remained undefeated in the dual singles season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory for Carpico on court five and 6-0, 6-3 victory for Okonkwo on court three.
- To clinch, Alexander Bernard earned his second singles victory of the day in a 6-1, 6-3 bout, making Ohio State 2-0 on the day.
- JP Day saw the singles lineup for the second time this season on court six. He was leading 6-2, 4-2 before the Buckeyes clinched the match.
