COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s lacrosse team wraps up a three-game homestand and finishes non-conference play on Tuesday night when it hosts Dartmouth inside Ohio Stadium. Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is ranked No. 9 in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll and is coming off a 14-12 loss to Denver on Sunday at Ohio Stadium.
- The trio of Jack Myers, Jackson Reid and Colby Smith lead a Buckeye offense that is currently averaging 15.57 goals per game.
- Myers’ 3.00 assists per game leads and Big Ten and is in the top five nationally. He has 21 helpers in seven games and 40 points overall (19-21-40).
- After a four-point day on Sunday, Reid has 18 goals and nine assists this season. He’s 10th in the Big Ten in points per game.
- Smith leads the team with 20 goals – good for fifth-best in the Big Ten – and overall has 22 points.
- Jason Knox (16-1-17), Griffin Hughes (4-4-8), Ed Shean (4-3-7) and James Gurr (5-1-6) are among the Buckeyes’ other leading scorers.
- Caton Johnson has started all seven games in goal and has a .472 save percentage with 58 total stops and a 10.78 goals-against average.
- Ohio State continues to lead the country in extra-man efficiency. It’s scored on 18-of-23 attempts, good for 78.3 percent.
- At the faceoff X, Justin Inacio has won nearly 65 percent of his draws and also leads the team with 53 ground balls. Drew Blanchard, meanwhile, is facing off at 72.7 percent (24-of-33).
Scouting Dartmouth
- The Big Green enter Tuesday’s game having won four straight, including a 17-10 decision on Saturday at home over St. John’s.
- Dartmouth owns victories this year over Bryant, Siena, Vermont and St. John’s with their lone loss coming in the season opener to Merrimack.
- Four players have double-figure points through five games for Dartmouth, led by George Prince (11-7-18).
History vs. Dartmouth
- Tuesday will be just the third all-time meeting between Ohio State and Dartmouth.
- The last occurred on Feb. 21, 2015, a 15-5 Ohio State win inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
- In 2001, the two teams played for the first time ever in Baltimore. The Buckeyes won that game, 14-10.
Special Units
- The Buckeyes’ special units – its extra-man offense, man-down defense and faceoffs – continue to rank among the best in the country.
- Ohio State has scored on 78.3 percent of its extra man chances (18 goals and 23 opportunities). On Sunday, it was 1-for-1 on the EMO.
- Jason Knox entered last weekend leading the country with seven extra-man goals.
- Equally as impressive is the work Ohio State’s done when it goes man-down. Opponents have scored on just four-of-20 extra man chances. On Sunday, Denver was 0-for-3.
- The faceoff unit also ranks in the top five nationally and has won 67.0 percent of the draws taken this season.
- Critical to that has been the play of the faceoff wings. Trent DeCicco (27 ground balls), Stephen Zupicich (13 ground balls), Greg Langermeier (10 ground balls) and Connor Cmiel (19 ground balls) anchor that group.
