COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will open the 2022-23 season this week at the Frederica Cup in St. Simons Island, Ga., at the Frederica Golf Club. The 54-hole event will feature a play-6, count-5 format. The first two rounds are set for Wednesday and the final round will be on Thursday.

  • Ohio State’s lineup this week will consist of Maxwell Moldovan, Adam Wallin, Neal Shipley, Jackson Chandler, JonErik Alford and Jacob Tarkany.
  • Moldovan is coming off an All-American season that saw him win three times and set the program’s single-season scoring record
  • Wallin earned second team All-Big Ten honors last year and also won his first collegiate event. He just wrapped up playing in the World Amateur Team Championship in France where he helped Team Sweden to a runner-up finish
  • Shipley is a transfer from James Madison where he played for two seasons. The Pennsylvania native won the Pennsylvania Amateur this past summer.
  • Chandler was named a Big Ten Player to Watch this season. He was third on the team last season in scoring at 73.34. This summer, he finished runner-up at the Monroe Invitational and also had a Top 10 at the Ohio Amateur.
  • Alford had the best season of his career last year, playing in 12 events and posting a pair of Top 20 finishes. He qualified for the US Amateur for the second consecutive year and advanced to match play. The Georgia native also got married at the end of August.
  • Tarkany played in the first three events of his freshman season last year and then redshirted the rest of the season. He shot a 1-under 71 in his second collegiate round at the Marquette Intercollegiate.
  • Six of the eight teams in the Frederica Cup fields appeared in last year’s NCAA Championship at Grayhawk GC.
  • The forecast calls for hot and humid conditions with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s with a chance of afternoon rain on Thursday.
