About the Badgers and Wildcats
- Northwestern was the only team in the Big Ten to win all six of its opening-weened games Feb. 26-28, going 6-0 against Penn State, Rutgers and Michigan State. The Wildcats are receiving votes in this week’s NFCA Top 25 poll and are No. 23 in the USA Softball/ESPN.com poll.
- Wisconsin went 3-3 during its opening weekend. The Badgers swept Penn State, lost twice to Indiana and split a doubleheader against Maryland.
Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State opened its season by winning three of six games Feb. 26-28 in Leesburg against Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.

- Teammate Allison Smith, a freshman, made her Ohio State debut and went 18.1 innings over the first weekend with a win and a save.
- She started the season with a nine strikeout performance against Iowa in a 3-2 win. Smith also picked up a save versus Minnesota, striking out the final two batters of the game in the bottom of the 11th inning.
- The star at the plate – and on defense – in the first weekend was sophomore Mariah Rodriguez. She batted a team-best .400 and drove in all four runs in the 4-2 win over Nebraska.
