
Buckeyes Finish Second at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team (1-3, 1-2 Big Ten) finished second at a tri-meet with Michigan State and Nebraska on Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes had a team score of 195.325 while the Spartans’ 195.775 won the meet and the Cornhuskers placed third with a 194.725.
As a team, Ohio State claimed the vault title with a 48.975, which tied its season high. Five Buckeyes won shares of three event titles. Elexis Edwards and Sydney Jennings earned a share of the vault crown with scores of 9.825 while Colby Miller and Jenna Swartzentruber shared the bars title with a pair of 9.850s. Alexis Hankins tied for first on floor behind a 9.875.
The Buckeyes opened the tri-meet on beam with a 48.850 to take an early lead. Hankins scored a season-high 9.875 to finish second. Emma Pritchard matched her career mark thanks to a 9.825.
Ohio State headed to floor for the second rotation, where it posted a season-high 49.050. Hankins’ 9.875, a season high, put her in a four-way tie for first place. Ella Hodges and Pritchard scored a pair of 9.825s, which was a season best for Hodges and career high for Pritchard.
Edwards and Jennings each tallied a 9.825 to share the vault title with Nebraska’s Anika Dujakovich. Morgan Lowe and Nicole Riccardi both tied their season highs with a pair of 9.800s. The Buckeyes held on to their lead going into the final rotation with a 146.875.
It was another three-way tie, this time between Miller, Swartzentruber and the Spartans’ Delanie Harkness, who all scored a 9.850 on bars, a season high for Miller. Hankins recorded a 9.800 for a new career best. Ohio State had a score of 48.450 on the apparatus while Michigan State earned a 49.125 on floor to seal its victory.
The Buckeyes will host the Spartans in a dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m.
