Buckeye Divers Headed to NCAA Zone Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State diving team makes the trip to Ann Arbor, Mich. next week to compete at the 2022 Zone Diving Championships. Those who earn qualifying finishes in their respective events will have the chance to compete for a national championship at the 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships later this month in Atlanta, Ga.
Zone C is allotted nine spots in the 1-meter, ten in 3-meter and nine in platform for the women. For the men’s championship, the zone can qualify nine in the 1-meter, nine in the 3-meter and 11 on platform. Any diver that qualifies for the NCAA Championships will be allowed to enter any other event(s) at the championships as long as the diver finished in the top 12 at the same zone meet and has reached the zone qualifying score for that event prior to the NCAA Championships.
Schedule
Diving begins Monday, March 7 at 1 p.m. with the women’s 1-meter and men’s 3-meter. Tuesday the women’s 3-meter and men’s 1-meter dives will be contested. Finally, the Buckeyes will compete in both the men’s and women’s platform on Wednesday with the women starting at 11 a.m. and the men at 1 p.m.

Ohio State As of Late
The men’s team is coming off a record performance at the 2022 Big Ten Championship. The group scored 353 points for the most points scored by a diving team at the conference championship meet.
For the women, Ciara McGing set an Irish National Diving record at the women’s Big Ten Championship meet. She earned a score of 319.25 on the platform to take the record. She totaled 31 points for Ohio State at the conference championship to help the Buckeyes to their third consecutive Big Ten title.
Last Year at the Zone Championships
At the 2021 Zone C Championships, Ohio State qualified six divers for the national championship meet, all of whom returned to the roster this year. Jake Fielding, Jacob Siler and Lyle Yost qualified on all three boards. Joey Canova and Mackenzie Crawford qualified in both the 1 and 3-meter dives while Ciara McGing qualified on platform.
Up Next
Those who qualify this week in will compete at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Ga. The women’s meet is set for March 16-19 and the men compete March 23-26. The meet will be held at the McAuley Aquatic Center and hosted by Georgia Tech.
