Andrew Pierce Breaks School Record in 400-Meter Dash – Ohio State Buckeyes

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Andrew Pierce (So., Yellow Springs, Ohio) stayed undefeated this season in the 400-meter dash Saturday, breaking the school indoor record in the process at the Butler Canon IV Invitational. Pierce had a time of 46.12, beating the previous record of 46.34 set by Chris Nelloms in 1993. Pierce also scored in the 200-meter dash, placing third with another season-best at 21.39.
In addition, Pierce was part of the distance medley team that broke a school record at 9:49.93, beating the 1995 squad’s 9:51.05. Also on the medley team were Andy Greicius (So., Ashtabula, Ohio), David Gonzalez (So., Bolingbrook, Ill.), and Brian Ely (Jr., Circleville, Ohio).
Also scoring for the men were Gonzalez in the 3,000-meter run, where he had a personal best 8:06.25 en route to provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships.The 4×400-meter relay team, the distance medley team, and Joe Crallie (Sr., East Sparta, Ohio) in the long jump also scored for the Buckeyes.
Scoring for the women was the women’s 4×400 meter relay team, which came in sixth at 3:42.92, another school record. On the record-breaking squad were Cathy Rejouis (Sr., Calgary, Canada), Carrie Hoblet (Jr., Lewis Center, Ohio), Ayanna Reece (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) and Dominque Calloway (Jr., Aurora, Colo.).
Setting personal bests for the Buckeyes were Alexis Schulist (Jr., Muskegon, Mich.), J.J. O’Rielly (Fr., Dover, Ohio), and Ian Connor (So., Lexington, Ohio), all in the 5,000-meter run.
The Buckeyes return home this weekend for the Scarlet and Gray Invitational on Feb. 13.
