COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse schedule is set for 2019 season, featuring matchups with four teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament and five that are currently ranked in the Inside Lacrosse Top 25, head coach Alexis Venechanos announced on Friday.
The Buckeyes host 10 home contests, including a six-game homestand following the first game of the season, and travel for five road games as well as two neutral site games throughout 2019. OSU will visit five different states outside of Ohio – Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and New Jersey.
“The Buckeyes are ready for the 2019 season,” Venechanos said. “This schedule allows us to compete against great competition from across the country and conferences. The Big Ten conference is one of the best conferences in the country and we are looking forward to competing for a Big Ten Championship in May.”
Ohio State opens the season down the road with an interstate clash against Cincinnati on Feb. 8. The Buckeyes then return home to host Detroit Mercy (Feb. 10), Brown (Feb. 18), Notre Dame (Feb. 22), Marquette (March 1), Niagara (March 3) and Binghamton (March 9).
Making a trip down south on March 11, OSU will play UMass on the campus of Stetson University in Deland, Fla., before opening conference action versus Maryland on March 16 in College Park. The Buckeyes host rival Michigan on March 21, followed by a home tilt with San Diego State on March 24.
The second neutral game of the regular season is set for March 30 at U.S. Lacrosse in Sparks, Md., where the Buckeyes face Oregon. The squad then travels to University Park, Pa., for a game against Penn State on April 4. The final non-conference game of the season is a meeting with Louisville on April 9 in Kentucky.
OSU wraps up the month of April by hosting Johns Hopkins on the 13th, taking one last business trip to Piscataway, N.J., to play Rutgers and closing out the regular season at home against Northwestern on April 25. The Blue Jays host the Big Ten Tournament in Baltimore, Md., from May 2-4.
