Women’s Basketball Player Honored this Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

PARK RIDGE, Ill. – Ohio State forward Marrita Porter (Jr., Louisville, Kentucky) was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for her play last week against Iowa and Michigan. Porter averaged 27.5 points per game and made 69.7 percent of her field goals (23-of-33) last weekend as the Buckeyes narrowly lost to Big Ten champion Iowa and upset No. 3 Conference tournament seed Michigan.
She scored 24 points and dished out four assists in the 74-71 loss to the Hawkeyes, while making 10-of-14 field goals for 71.4 percent. In the 88-80 win over Michigan, Porter scored 31 points (23 of which came in the second half), while grabbing seven rebounds. She added five assists and two steals and made 13-of-19 field goals (68.4 percent). Porter is fourth in the Big Ten with an 18.7 points per game scoring average, is third in the Conference with 2.54 steals per game and leads the Buckeyes with 7.2 rebounds per game and a 56.4 field goal percentage.
Eighth seeded Ohio State (14-11 overall, 7-9 Big Ten) opens the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Friday against Michigan State (11-15, 5-11), the ninth seed. The Buckeyes play the Spartans at 4 p.m. EST in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana.
