Van Nouhuys and Blanton Share Tournament MVP Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Big Ten Conference announced Sunday the 2001 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament awards. Goalkeeper Allison Blanton (Sr., Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) and midfielder Marije van Nouhuys (Sr., Biltoven, Holland/New Lyceum) of Ohio State shared Tournament Most Valuable Player honors, while Buckeye midfielders Jenee Doto (So., Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and Lorena Margni (Fr., Montevideo, Uruguay/British Schools) were named to the all-tournament team.
Blanton played over 200 minutes in goal for the Buckeyes during the Big Ten tournament. She recorded 10 saves, while allowing only 1 goal. In the game against Michigan she made eight saves to help preserve the shutout.
Van Nouhuys finished the Big Ten tournament with four points on one goal and two assists. She scored the final goal against Michigan and tallied two assists in the win over Indiana.
Doto carried her strong play from regular season play to the Big Ten tournament. She finished the tournament with four points, all coming on goals.
Margni continued her outstanding freshman season with a great performance in the tournament. She finished the tournament with seven points on two goals and three assists.
The Buckeyes will continue their postseason schedule this weekend in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. Selections for the tournament will be announced Tuesday evening.
