COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior James Trotter was a perfect 5-0 last week in leading the Buckeyes to a 2-1 record at the ITA Indoor Team National Championship and he has been named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
This is Trotter’s second honor of the season as he was also named Athlete of the Week on Feb. 8. This is also the third consecutive week in which a Buckeye has earned the award. Justin Boulais claimed the distinction last week.
Trotter won his first two singles matches by the same exact score of 6-2, 7-6(3), the second of which came against No. 25 Siem Woldeab of Texas. He was a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, helping the Buckeyes win the double point in all three matches. He and partner Andrew Lutschaunig beat the No. 4 team of Eliot Spizzirri and Cleeve Harper of Texas 6-4 and then bested the No. 20 team of Ryan Goetz and Chris Rodesch of Virginia 7-6(3).
For the year, Trotter holds a perfect 13-0 singles record and a 6-3 mark in doubles. He is one of six Buckeyes ranked in the current Top 100 of the ITA singles rankings.
This weekend, Trotter and the Buckeyes will host No. 37 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
