Trent DiCicco, Justin Inacio Earn Weekly Big Ten Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following their performances in Ohio State’s 18-7 victory over Detroit Mercy on Saturday, two Ohio State men’s lacrosse players on Tuesday earned weekly accolades from the Big Ten Conference. Justin Inacio is the Specialist of the Week while Trent DiCicco earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Inacio, a fifth-year senior majoring in biology, was 18 of the 21 face-offs that he took and picked up seven ground balls. It was the ninth time in his career that he’s won 18 or more face-offs in a game as overall the Buckeyes won 24 of 29 at the X.
An Oakville, Ontario native, Inacio ranks second in program history in both face-off wins (548) and ground balls (266). He’s 66 face-off wins shy of Jake Withers’ all-time record and 85 ground balls away from the No. 1 spot, also held by Withers.
A big reason for Ohio State’s dominance in the face-off X on Saturday was the wing play of DiCicco, who had a career-high nine groundballs and added a caused turnover. DiCicco’s ground ball total was the most by a non-faceoff specialist in 19 years, since Greg Bice picked up nine vs. Fairfield in 2003.
From Guelph, Ontario, DiCicco is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering.
