🏀 TBT Tournament Coming to Covelli Center this Summer

Carmen’s Crew will begin TBT title defense at the Covelli Center beginning July 23

COLUMBUS, February 18, 2020 – The Basketball Tournament (TBT), the 64-team, $2 million winner-take-all event televised live today announced it will partner with Ohio State University to bring their Columbus Regional to OSU’s campus for the first time ever. Carmen’s Crew, the Ohio State alumni team, will begin their 2019 TBT championship defense at the Covelli Center from July 23-26.

Since its inception in 2017, Carmen’s Crew has been one of TBT’s most successful alumni teams, with 12 wins over the course of their three-year history. Carmen’s Crew finally captured their first championship in 2019, knocking off four-time reigning champions Overseas Elite in the semifinals before defeating Golden Eagles Alumni (Marquette alumni) in the TBT championship game. Aaron Craft, a member of TBT’s 2019 All-Tournament Team, and Jon Diebler are both expected to return to play for Carmen’s Crew this summer.

Ohio State legends Jared Sullinger and Evan Turner will also return as members of Carmen’s Crew’s coaching staff.

“There’s no better place to have the tournament,” Turner said. “I think that it’s going to be so special and fun to play at a place where we all became men. I think our guys are going to show up and show out and make the Buckeye faithful proud. This is definitely something I’m excited for and can’t wait to be part of and I know everybody in the city feels the same way!”

“Our program prides itself on welcoming back our former players and having Carmen’s Crew back on campus for the Columbus Regional of The Basketball Tournament takes that to a new level,” Ohio State men’s basketball head coach Chris Holtmann said. “Buckeye Nation will once again be able to cheer on legendary Buckeyes in our newest modern facility, the Covelli Center. TBT will be yet another opportunity for Carmen’s Crew to continue its success playing in Columbus in front of our tremendous fans.”

Alongside Carmen’s Crew, seven other teams will compete in the Columbus Regional, with all games being broadcast live. First-round games at the Covelli Center will begin Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24, with two games being played each night. The remaining four teams will compete in the Regional Semifinals on Saturday, July 25, and the Regional Championship will be played on Sunday, July 26.

The winner of the Columbus Regional will advance to Championship Week at the University of Dayton Arena from Aug. 6-11.

We’re excited to partner with The Ohio State University to bring TBT to the Covelli Center,” TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar said. “Watching Carmen’s Crew dethrone Overseas Elite last year was unforgettable. It was especially meaningful for the thousand Carmen’s Crew fans that shared in the two million dollar prize. There’s no better place for the team and its fans to begin its march to defend its title than back on campus at Ohio State.”

In addition to featuring the highest stakes format in the world, TBT has become known as a trendsetter in basketball circles. Its trademark, post game bracket celebration has grown into a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament each year. In addition, the NBA has adopted an Elam Ending-inspired finish to their 2020 All-Star Game. Multiple leagues across the world are also evaluating TBT’s Elam Ending as an alternative way to end basketball games.

TBT’s registration period for teams interested in competing in any of their eight regional locations will run from March 15-June 15. The 64-team field and TBT bracket will be released on June 22.
