Initial Points of Emphasis
Keep it simple | Keep it short
The average video watch time on social is measured between :03 and :10. So in the scroll-view society we are in and to make your creative more streamlined, brevity can be your best ally.
Keep it clean
The apps and tools we are sharing with you below have many bells and whistles, if you will, and many are designed for personal use as opposed to business/organization. Done the right way, the apps can certainly be handy with your mobile devices in editing to touch up imagery and quick video.
Ideally the cleaner and less busy you can keep your imagery and video, we can limit branding risks per our creative team and university branding standards: ohiostatebuckeyes.com/creative-and-branding.
Second set of eyes
Develop a process to have someone on your staff who you work with daily to review your content before sharing. The digital team is happy to chat through and help you in this process or direct you to an expert related to your project.
MUSIC – all audio tracks must be approved before distribution (public or private)
The department of athletics has several subscription services to utilize approved popular and generic music. Any music use must be approved by both the digital media and video services areas.
Shake up your timeline
One great way to give shake up your time line is think about ways you can diversify what you are sharing: convert quick video or live photos into GIFs, use slow-motion and/or timelapse videos, take panoramic photos. All are features available on your smart phone!
While imagery is the most efficient for a busy staff and video is most-desired and effective, look at ways you at times can share on social even without the need for a creative visual.
Consider going LIVE or “look live”
Also forecast opportunities to go live, whether it’s a speech before practice, drills in-practice or student-athlete activities, rolling off the bus for a road game, etc. If you are uncomfortable going live, record and share in the moment promptly.
Have fun
Share from your student-athletes
As we continue to approach/move into the NIL era building the following of your student-athletes will be at the forefront. Many of you have shared “follow” graphics for your student-athletes, but think beyond your accounts while you are out at practice, stretching, warming up, in the weight room, etc.
Snap a few shots or clips of small groups or individuals and share that media with the student-athletes with intent to have them distribute first on their social channels. Your main sport accounts can then share from them. This strategy adds authenticity and helps your fan bases relate better to your roster. In addition, beneficial for recruiting. Obviously utilize the OpenDorse tool as well.
