Liz Schepers isn’t done yet.
On Sunday, she graduated from Ohio State with her bachelor’s degree in health sciences. She’s elected to stay at Ohio State and continue her education and hockey career. Next year, she’ll begin work on her master’s degree in bioethics. We caught up with her to talk more about that decision and her experience so far with the Buckeyes.
What has your Ohio State experience meant to you and what are some of the lessons you’ll take with you long after your hockey career is over?
I am so thankful for my time at Ohio State. This is where I have made life-long friendships and developed both as a hockey player and a person. Most importantly, my experience here has taught me how to lead from the front, be confident in myself, and to make the most of every situation.
What are your plans moving forward and how would you like to use your degree?
I am very excited to be returning to Ohio State next year to continue playing hockey and pursue my Master of Arts in Bioethics. Coming back was an easy decision, I love the game and going to the rink with the girls is still the best part of my day. Ohio State is such a special place and I want to contribute to this program as much as I can. My master’s program will also help me become the best health care professional I can be, as following my hockey career I will begin physical therapy school.
What is your favorite Ohio State memory (or memories)?
Winning the WCHA tournament immediately comes to mind. We made some of our best memories both on and off the ice that weekend, and to come out of the toughest conference tournament with a championship was unbelievable. Personally, playing in Hockey Day Minnesota was also really special. I grew up watching it and always dreamed of being involved, so getting to play in the outdoor game with my Ohio State teammates made it that much more memorable. It was an experience I’ll always be grateful for, even though it was freezing!
