2022 SA Graduation Summary

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Since December of 2021 there have been 213 student-athletes who have graduated from Ohio State. All of these Buckeye Graduates have engaged with The Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute throughout their time in Scarlet & Gray. A record 94 percent of those athletes have accepted full-time employment (92), entered graduate school (72) or professionalized in their respective sport (26).

Nine are returning for a fifth year outside a master’s program while two others are considering employment offers. That’s a total of 201-of-213 with secured professional or educational plans following graduation.

“Since the Leadership Institute started four years ago, we have seen a continuous increase in the number of student-athletes “secure” at the time of graduation as well as the number attending graduate school,” Makena Lynch, Ohio State director of student-athlete development and leadership analytic, said. “This is a direct result of the Institute’s efforts to prepare them for life after graduation. Student-athletes at Ohio State are constantly exposed to career opportunities and potential employers, which allows them to solidify their intended path earlier in their academic career. The holistic programming provided by the Institute positions student-athletes to succeed in their next step.”

Top employers of recent Buckeye graduates include JPMorgan Chase & Co., Huntington, TEKsystems and Abercrombie & Fitch.

Those who have continued playing professionally have gone to the NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, the Premier Lacrosse League and the National Lacrosse League.
