COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State women’s hockey head coach Jackie Barto has been named head coach of the U.S. Women’s Select and National Teams for two international events, USA Hockey announced Wednesday. Barto will guide the U.S. teams in the Four Nations Cup, Nov. 7-11 in Leksand, Sweden, and the IIHF World Women’s Championship, April 4-13, 2008 in Harbin, China.

Over her eight seasons, Barto has led the Buckeyes to a 122-143-28 overall record while competing in the toughest league in the nation in the WCHA, which holds all seven NCAA championship crowns. Prior to Ohio State, Barto was the head coach at Providence College for five seasons and has an overall career record of 192-196-38 (.495) in her 13 years behind the bench.
Barto has been extensively involved with ice hockey on the national level. She recently was a member of the selection committee for the 2006 Winter Olympic U.S. National Women’s Hockey team. Barto also was an assistant coach for the 2003 U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team who played a three-game exhibition series against Canada and also competed at the 2003 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. In August 1999, she was one of four head coaches at the USA Hockey Women’s Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. and was an assistant coach there in 1998.
Barto served on the NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Championship Committee from 2000-06 and also is a member of the American Women’s Hockey Coaches Association.
