Ohio State’s Debbie Merrill Selected in Second Round of WNBA Draft – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Debbie Merrill, who helped Ohio State to a 29-3 record and Big Ten regular season and tournament championships in 2005-06, was selected by the Connecticut Sun in the second round of the 2006 WNBA Draft Wednesday in Boston, Mass. Merrill was taken with the 28th pick overall.
A transfer from the University of Cincinnati, Merrill scored 1,740 career points in three seasons with the Bearcats and her senior campaign with the Buckeyes. In 2005-06, she was Ohio State’s team leader with 103 assists and a 1.8-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Merrill also averaged 10.4 points and 5.7 assists per game last season. For her career, Merrill posted 14.5 ppg., 7.4 rpg., and shot .494 (685-1,386) from the field.
A 2002-03 Kodak/WBCA All-American honorable mention selection, Merrill is the first Buckeye selected in the WNBA draft since Courtney Coleman (2000-03) also was picked by Connecticut in the second round (13th overall).
