Ohio State Trio Named Senior CLASS Candidates

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ryan Terefenko, Tre Leclaire and Jeff Henrick, who all chose to return to Ohio State for their additional year of eligibility and pursue master’s degrees, are candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award®.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2021 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championship in May.
Terefenko and Henrick are each serving as team captains for the third consecutive year. A three-time All-American, Terefenko is Ohio State’s active career leader in ground balls (146) and simply does a little bit of everything for the Scarlet and Gray. He plays both offensive and defensive midfield, assists in the clearing game and in the 2021 season opener against Johns Hopkins, won five of nine faceoffs.
Henrick’s played in every game since the start of the 2017 season – 57 to be exact. He started all 12 games at close defense in 2019 and finished with seven caused turnovers before moving to long stick midfield in 2020. He already had seven caused turnovers and 19 ground balls in just seven games last spring. Henrick has 89 career ground balls and 34 caused turnovers.
Leclaire is on his way to being the most prolific goal scorer in program history. The Surrey, British Columbia native is six goals away from passing Logan Schuss’ career total of 147. This season, he’s scored seven times so far in 2021, including a four-goal effort in a 14-8 season-opening win over Johns Hopkins. He’s amassed 180 career points, sixth highest in program history, on 142 goals and 38 assists. Before COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the season after seven games, Leclaire was second in the Big Ten in goals (26) and third in goals per game (3.71). He’s a three-time All-American selection by the USILA.
Leclaire, Henrick and Terefenko all graduated in 2020 with their degrees in sport industry and are currently enrolled in Ohio State’s sports management master’s program.
