Ohio State, Michigan Meet To Open 2021 Big Ten Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Postseason lacrosse returns to Ohio Stadium on Saturday as No. 20 and fourth-seeded Ohio State hosts fifth-seeded Michigan in a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal game beginning at 4 p.m. The game will be carried by BTN with Joel Godett and former Buckeye captain and All-American Greg Bice on the call.

Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State finished the regular season with a 4-6 record after a tough 10-9 setback to Penn State last Saturday.
- The Buckeyes’ offense scored 12 or more goals six times this year. That unit is led by the tandem of Jack Myers and Tre Leclaire, who have combined for 54 goals on the season.
- Myers is tops of the team with 31 goals and has added 10 assists for 41 points. He ranks fourth in the league in goals per game (3.10) and sixth in points per game (4.10).
- Leclaire, meanwhile, is 10th at 2.30 goals per game. Last week he became just the fifth player in program history to reach 200 career points.
- Ohio State ranks third in the league in overall face-off winning percentage at .533. Senior Justin Inacio has taken 241 draws and has a .552 winning percentage. On Saturday, he’ll square off with Michigan’s Nick Rowlett, who is tied with him for third in the league in face-off winning percentage.
- Graduate student Alec Van de Bovenkamp has started each of the last seven games with a .451 save percentage. He’s started twice this season against Michigan and finished with 8.00 goals-against average and .500 save percentage.
- Close defensemen Jacob Snyder and Eric Wenz have each started all 10 games this season. They’ve combined for 25 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
- Ohio State ranks 11th nationally and first in the Big Ten in man-down defense. They’ve given up just four EMO goals in 15 attempts. The 15 extra-man opportunities for opponents is also the lowest in the league and nine less than any other team.
- Senior All-American Ryan Terefenko continues to stuff that stat sheet. Last week, he scored an extra-man goal, giving him five goals this season, and added a ground ball to give him 21 of the season (in six games).
The Winner Moves On
- The winner of Saturday’s game earns to a trip to State College, Pa. and a semifinal game vs. top-seeded Maryland next Thursday, May 6.
- Third-seeded Penn State faces sixth-seeded Johns Hopkins in the other quarterfinal with the winner meeting No. 2 seed Rutgers, also next Thursday.
- All five games in this year’s Big Ten Tournament will air live on BTN.
Big Ten Tournament History
- This will be Ohio State’s fourth appearance in the Big Ten Tournament.
- The Buckeyes own a 2-3 all-time Big Ten Tournament record.
- They made championship game appearances in 2015 and 2017.
Limited Fan Attendance Permitted
- For the third time this season, the Buckeyes will welcome back fans to Ohio Stadium outside of player/staff guests.
- Ticket availability is extremely limited so fans can click HERE prior to the game to reserve their mobile tickets.
- Tickets will be free, but to reserve your tickets you will be asked to log into your Ticket Master account.
- Fans may request up to four tickets for each game until the public ticket allotment has been exhausted
- All fans will be asked to share contact information in case contact tracing needs to be conducted after the event.
- All guests and staff will be asked to remain six feet apart.
- In areas where the department anticipates lines forming, there will be stickers placed six feet apart on the floor/pavement.
- Seating areas will be numbered by row and seat. Guests will receive a reserved ticket and will sit in assigned seating pods spaced 6-feet apart.
- All guests and event staff must wear face coverings at all times while attending events at Ohio State’s athletic venues and facilities.
The Ohio State/Michigan Series
- Since Michigan’s arrival as a Division I program in 2012, the Buckeyes own a 9-1 record against the Maze and Blue.
- This will be the first time in the history of the series that the teams are playing three times in a season.
- In eight of Ohio State’s nine wins over the last nine games, it’s scored 10 or more goals.
- All nine of the Buckeyes’ wins since 2012 have come by three or more goals.
Career Against the Wolverines
- Tre Leclaire is Ohio State’s active leading career scorers against the Maze and Blue. In four games (2017-18 and 2021), he’s produced 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists.
- Jack Myers has played in three games against Michigan and has eight goals and four assists for 12 points.
- Justin Inacio is winning face-offs at a .688 clip in four career games against Michigan. He’s also picked up 33 ground balls.
#ProBuckeyes Selected in PLL Draft
- On Monday evening, the fraternity of #ProBuckeyes in the Premier Lacrosse League grew by two as Ryan Terefenko and Tre Leclaire were taken with back to back picks in the second round.
- Terefenko went off the board first with the 12th pick overall to the Chrome LC. Leclaire then went with the next pick, No. 13 overall, to the Archers LC.
- They join a Buckeye fraternity in the PLL that includes Dominique Alexander (Archers LC), Jesse King (Chrome LC) and Jake Withers (Waterdogs LC).
- The league opens its season the weekend of June 4 and has a schedule that includes games in 11 major cities throughout the summer and a three-weekend playoff schedule.
