COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State women’s hockey team took game one of its series at St. Cloud State with a 6-2 win Friday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Graduate forward Paetyn Levis recorded her second multi-goal performance in as many games for the Buckeyes (21-2-2, 16-2-1 WCHA) and nine players earned a point in the contest to help Ohio State past the Huskies (13-13-0, 6-13-0 WCHA).

How it Happened

  • Makenna Webster struck first with a goal at 2:36. She was assisted by Paetyn Levis and Emma Maltais to give Ohio State the 1-0 lead.
  • The Buckeyes’ second goal was scored at 14:46 by Jenn Gardiner right after a faceoff taken by Kenzie Hauswirth.
  • The team finished the first frame with a 2-0 lead and a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Levis scored her first goal of the game under a minute after the opening faceoff. Hadley Hartmetz, who took the original shot to start the play, and Webster, who knocked the rebound to Levis, earned the assists.
  • The Huskies got on the board at 7:31 with a goal from Emma Gentry.
  • Hadley Hartmetz scored a power play goal with just four seconds to play on the team’s first power play opportunity of the game. It was Ohio State’s second goal scored off the faceoff, this time with Sloane Matthews taking the draw to assist Hartmetz’s goal.
  • Cloud State’s second goal was credited to Dayle Ross at 17:37.
  • Overall, the Buckeyes continued their offensive pressure on St. Cloud State with 32 shots on goal after 40:00. Ohio State held its opponent to just 12 shots on goal in the first two frame.
  • For her second goal of the game, Levis lit the lamp at 5:32 into the third period. She finished top shelf on St. Cloud State goaltender Jojo Chobak to push Ohio State ahead 5-2.
  • Kenzie Hauswirth tallied the final goal of the game at 6:48. Gardiner and Lauren Bernard recorded helpers on the goal.

  • With two goals in Friday’s game, Paetyn Levis has recorded multiple goals in the last two games. She has tallied three multi-goal games this season for the Buckeyes. She recorded a team-high three points in the game. She has scored three points in each of the Buckeyes’ last two games.
  • Hadley Hartmetz’s power play goal was just the second of her career. She added an assist for two points on the day, making it her second multi-point game of the season.
  • Hartmetz, Maltais and Lauren Bernard led the team with a +3 on the day.
  • Raygan Kirk earned the win in goal for Ohio State, playing 39:38 between the pipes. She improves to 8-1-1 for Ohio State. Amanda Thiele made four saves in 20:00 of action.
  • Nine players recorded a point for the Buckeyes and six players tallied multiple points in the game.
  • Ohio State finished 1-for-2 against the second-best penalty kill in the conference. The Buckeyes’ power play improves to .338 on the year after Friday’s game.
  • With two assists on Friday, Maltais brings her career point total to 189 points. She currently holds the Ohio State record for career points.
  • Levis’ game-winning goal is her third this season and tenth of her career.
