
Ohio State Advances to WCHA Final Faceoff With 3-0 Win Over St. Cloud State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team completed its weekend shutout of St. Cloud State and advances to the WCHA Final Faceoff with a 3-0 win over the Huskies on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink.
How it Happened
Gabby Rosenthal got Ohio State on the board in the first period with 1:16 left on the clock. She sent a backhanded shot from the left side of the St. Cloud State net past the Huskies to give the Buckeyes the lead at the end of the first period.
The team’s second goal came from Liz Schepers at 12:25 in the second period. With a penalty signaled on the Huskies, Ohio State pulled goaltender Andrea Braendli for the extra attacker opportunity. Schepers collected a rebounded shot from Rosenthal to stretch the Buckeye lead to two.
Lauren Bernard tallied the team’s final game of the day at 7:04 in the third period. The junior capitalized on the Buckeyes’ power play opportunity to cement the win for Ohio State.
Braendli was back in net for Ohio State on Saturday, making 11 saves for her 10th win of the year and second shutout of the season.
Game Notes
- The shutout win marks the first time in three seasons that Ohio State has not allowed a goal by its opponent for an entire series. The last time the Buckeyes earned a series shutout was against St. Cloud State on Feb. 1-2, 2019.
- Andrea Braendli made 11 saves in her first game back since Jan. 7. She spent the last month and a half playing for Team Switzerland at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, helping the team to a spot in the bronze medal game.
- Lauren Bernard recorded her first career power play goal on Saturday. She has now scored four goals this season for the Buckeyes to bring her season point total to 23.
- Hadley Hartmetz and Paetyn Levis tallied two assists in the contest. Levis tied her career-high single game assists mark for the seventh time of her career. Hartmetz also tied her career-high assists in a game but achieved it for the first time as a Buckeye on Saturday.
- Gabby Rosenthal led the team with five blocked shots on the day.
- Ohio State dominated St. Cloud State on offense again, notching 35 shots to the Huskies’ 11.
