COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s final road test of the regular season awaits on Saturday afternoon as the eighth-ranked Buckeyes head to College Park, Md. to take on No. 1 Maryland. Opening faceoff is slated for 4 p.m. with BTN to televise. Peter Medhurst and Mark Dixon will be on the call.

Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Thanks to a 12-10 win over Johns Hopkins last Saturday, Ohio State stands at 8-3 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play.
- The Buckeyes are ranked No. 8 in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll.
- Ohio State ranks in the top 10 nationally in four major statistical categories: scoring offense (10th, 14.36 goals/game), man-up offense (third, .611), man-down defense (ninth, .733), and face-off winning percentage (sixth, .619).
- The Buckeyes’ two captains – fifth-year senior Jackson Reid and senior Jack Myers – have been the catalysts on offense. Myers has 57 points on the season (26-31-57) while Reid checks in with 43 (29-14-43).
- Ohio State’s top goal scorer is another veteran, fifth-year senior Colby Smith. He’s scored 31 times this season and has at least one goal in all 11 games.
- In the face-off X, fifth-year senior Justin Inacio is coming off a 14-win showing last Saturday. He’s currently eighth nationally at .613 for the season with a team-high 67 ground balls.
- Senior Skylar Wahlund has started each of the last four games and has a 3-1 record with a .506 save percentage in those contests.
46 Scholar-Athletes Honored
- On Monday, Ohio State held its annual Scholar-Athlete banquet at the Covelli Center.
- A record 46 men’s lacrosse players were honored, which topped the previous high of 45.
- In order to qualify, a student-athlete must carry a 3.0 or better grade-point average.
- Taji Flynn, Daniel Garone and Matt Mercer were three of the 52 student-athletes department-wide to carry a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Scouting Maryland
- Maryland is 10-0 on the season and ranked No. 1 in both the USILA Coaches Poll and Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- The Terrapins defeated then-No. 3 Rutgers last Sunday night, 17-9, in College Park.
- Maryland leads the nation in scoring offense (18.30 goals/game), shooting percentage (.400), scoring margin (+8.70 goals/game) and assists per game (10.70).
The Ohio State/Maryland Series
- Saturday will be the 15th meeting all-time between Ohio State and Maryland. The Terrapins lead 11-3.
- Since the formation of the Big Ten, eight of the 10 games between Ohio State and Maryland have been decided by three goals or less.
- Nearly four years ago to the day (April 22, 2018), Ohio State knocked off No. 1 Maryland 12-10 in College Park. Justin Inacio won 17 face-offs in the game and Jackson Reid added three goals.
Big Lights, Big Stage
- Ohio State’s one remaining regular season games and the entirety of the Big Ten Tournament will appear on BTN.
- The Buckeyes’ regular season finale vs. Michigan next Sunday, April 24, will air on BTN, followed by the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament, which will be at campus sites, on Saturday, April 30.
- The Big Ten semifinals (May 5) and finals (May 7) will also be on BTN. Those games will take place at Maryland Stadium in College Park.
B1G Honors
- Jackson Reid earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday following his five-goal, one-assist performance vs. Johns Hopkins last Saturday.
- Reid is the fifth different Ohio State player to earn a Big Ten weekly award this season, joining Trent DiCicco (Defensive Player of the Week Feb. 8), Justin Inacio (two-time Specialist of the Week), Jack Myers (two-time Offensive Player of the Week) and Skylar Wahlund (Specialist of the Week April 5).

- Ohio State moved up one spot in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll to No. 8.
- After being unranked to start the season, the Buckeyes have spent six weeks this season ranked inside the top-10.
- Six past or future Ohio State opponents are ranked in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll.
- Ohio State has three wins over top-15 ranked teams: No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 14 Harvard and No. 15 North Carolina
The Game on the Ground
- The Buckeyes’ average of 34.45 ground balls per game is the highest in Nick Myers’ 14-year tenure as head coach.
- The previous high came in 2019 at 32.00 ground balls/game.
- Ohio State is 8-0 in games in which it picks up more ground balls than its opponents.
- The Buckeyes average 37.75 groundballs per game in their eight wins and are +10.50 in that category.
- In their three losses, the Buckeyes have averaged 25.6 ground balls/game and are -6 on the ground.
Statistically Speaking
- Jack Myers’ 168 career points is good for No. 7 on Ohio State’s all-time list. Seven more points will tie him with Kevin Buchanan, who has 175 points from 2005-08.
- On the program’s all-time assists list, Myers stands at No. 6 with 79. He needs 10 more to join Jesse King (2012-15) in the top five.
- Myers’ career average of 1.98 assists per game is 13th-highest among active Division I players.
- Ohio State is also on pace to break its single-season record for scoring offense. With an average of 14.36 goals per game, the Buckeyes are nearly one goal per game ahead of the pace of the 1966 team, which averaged 13.4.
- Justin Inacio’s 326 career ground balls rank second all-time, behind only Jake Withers, who scooped up 351 from 2014-17.
- Ohio State’s 13 regular season opponents are currently a combined 74-50. That .597 opponent winning percentage ranks as the 10th-highest in the nation.
