
No. 5 Ohio State Falls to No. 9 Duluth, 5-4 in Overtime

DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 5 Ohio State women’s ice hockey team fell to the Duluth Bulldogs Friday evening, 5-4 during 5-on-5 overtime. Liz Schepers and Emma Maltais both posted a goal and two assists each while Tatum Skaggs tallied two goals and one assist. With the loss, Ohio State slips to 17-7-5 (10-5-4 WCHA) and Minnesota Duluth improves to 14-9-4 (9-7-3).
Buckeye Bits
- Andrea Braendli posted 11 saves in the first period. Lynsey Wallace played the remaining 40 minutes in net and tallied 14 saves.
- Tatum Skaggs scored her second power play goal of the season in the first period. She led the team with two goals on the night.
- Emma Maltais and Liz Schepers both tallied three points from one goal and two assists. The line of Maltais, Schepers and Skaggs all finished the game with three points.
- Ohio State outshot Duluth, 45-30.

First Period
The Bulldogs opened scoring early in the first as Kylie Hanley scored just 1:19 into the contest. Ohio State went on the power play in the ninth minute of the game and Tatum Skaggs converted just 33 seconds later for her second power play goal of the season. The Buckeyes took the lead, 2-1 as Emma Maltais found the back of the net at 13:41. Duluth capped off first period scoring as Gabbie Hughes tallied the equalizer with 3:56 left in the first. The Buckeyes outshot the Bulldogs 17-13 in the period.
Second Period
With the score tied at 2-all, McKenzie Hewett scored her third goal of the season to give the Bulldogs the lead in the ninth minute. Just 40 seconds later, Maltais won a faceoff back to Liz Schepers whose long-range shot snuck past Maddie Rooney. Duluth broke the tie once again as Anna Klein scored a power play goal in the 18th minute. The score held with Duluth leading 4-3 at the end of the second. Lynsey Wallace started in net for the second period and tallied 10 saves.
Third Period
With time winding down in the final frame, Skaggs tallied her second goal of the game and the equalizer in the 14th minute. She was assisted by Jincy Dunne and Schepers. The score held and the game advanced to overtime. At the end of regulation, Ohio State outshot Duluth, 43-29 while Wallace made 14 saves.
Overtime
Ohio State opened the overtime period with a number of goal scoring opportunities but Duluth’s Anna Klein scored her second goal of the game and notched the game winner at the 3:12 mark of 5-on-5 overtime.
