Men and women capture team titles

COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio State men's and women's cross country teams began the 2026 campaign Friday evening in the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic hosted by Wright State in Fairborn, Ohio. Both the men and women placed first in the 5K races as a team. All five Buckeye men were in the Top 13 and the women's first six finishers were all in the Top 10. Will McGraw and Layla Sahaydak both finished second to lead the Buckeye men and women, respectively.

The Buckeye Men (5K)

Ohio State's men finished first as a team with 34 points and all five Buckeyes in the race were in the Top 13.
Senior Will McGraw, in his collegiate cross country 5K personal best (15:14.4), and sophomore Colin Cernansky (15:16.7) finished second and third, respectively.
Cooper Citro, a senior in his first year on the Buckeye cross country squad, was 10th in the meet (15:36.3).
Freshmen Brock Jarrett (15:37.4) and Nixon Snavely (15:46.4) made their collegiate debuts with 11th and 13th place finishes.

The Buckeye Women (5K)

The women placed six runners in the Top 10 and finished first as a team.
Freshman Layla Sahaydak, in her first collegiate race, crossed the line second overall and first for the Buckeyes in 17:57.7.
Returners Audrey DeSantis (18:01.5) and Chloe Dostal (18:04.5) were next in third and fourth, respectively. DeSantis finished just ahead of her personal best and Dostal surpassed her personal best by 29.1 seconds.
Freshmen Ava Shepard (18:21.6) and Elle Cargould (18:34.2) rounded out the Buckeyes' top five with sixth and ninth place finishes.
Sophomore Allie Kopser was 10th overall in 18:34.2.
Sophomores Sydney Stevenson (19:06.7/21st) and Olivia Holbrook (19:17.1/25th) and freshman Camryn Cayne (19:13.4/23rd) notched Top 25 finishes and graduate transfer Alexa Fortman (19:49.5/41st) rounded out the Buckeye lineup.

The Schedule Ahead

Next week, the Buckeyes will run in the Spartan Invite Sept. 11 in East Lansing, Mich.
The squad will then return to action Oct. 2 in Bethlehem, Pa., in Lehigh's Paul Short Run.
The regular season ends in College Station, Texas with the Arturo Barrios Invitational Oct. 16.
