COLUMBUS, Ohio --Â Ohio State resumes its Big Ten season Friday with a trip to State College, Pa., for a conference matchup against Penn State. The Buckeyes enter the contest looking to build momentum after earning a 1-all draw at George Mason and carrying a 5-2-2 overall record into the week. Penn State, meanwhile, is searching for its first conference victory after opening Big Ten play 0-4 and falling to UCLA, 4-2, Monday.
Ohio State has been one of the Big Ten's most productive offensive teams through nine matches, scoring 21 goals while averaging 2.33 goals per game. The Buckeyes have outscored opponents 21-9 and own four shutouts on the season. Ohio State is averaging 16.0 shots per contest, more than double the production of its opponents, who are averaging just 7.8 attempts per match.
Leading the attack is senior forward Isaiah Chisolm, who has recorded seven goals in just four appearances this season. Chisolm ranks first on the team with 14 points and has converted all three of his penalty kick opportunities. Aaron Hurge and Nyle Waugh have added three goals apiece, while Josué Youta has been the Buckeyes' primary playmaker with a team-high four assists. Ryan Hannosh has also contributed six points on two goals and two assists.
Defensively, goalkeeper Patrick McLaughlin has anchored Ohio State's back line with a 0.82 goals-against average and four shutouts. The Buckeyes limited opponents to one goal or fewer in seven of their first nine contests and opened the season with a five-match winning streak before conference play began.
Penn State enters the match Friday with a 2-6 overall record and is looking to snap a six-match losing streak. The Nittany Lions opened the season with wins over Mercyhurst and Yale but have faced a difficult stretch that included conference losses to Michigan State, Indiana and UCLA. Penn State has scored 11 goals while allowing 18 through eight matches.
Amadou Kone has been the focal point of the Penn State offense, pacing the team with three goals, two assists and eight points. Etienne Reck has provided a recent spark, scoring twice against UCLA in the Nittany Lions' most recent outing, while Morgan Marshall and Sheridan McNish each have one goal on the season. Penn State averages 10.5 shots per game and has generated 42 corner kicks, matching its opponents' total on the year
Goalkeeper Daniel Peluffo-Wiese has started all eight matches for Penn State and owns 24 saves. He turned in a season-high eight-save performance at Washington and has helped keep the Nittany Lions competitive despite the challenging conference schedule.
