COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State looks to close out the road portion of the season on the right note as the Buckeyes head to State College to take on Penn State Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on Peacock. Jason Knapp and Brendan Haywood will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- The Buckeyes have four Big Ten road wins this season. They haven’t had five conference road wins since the 2021-22 season, which was the last time the Buckeyes reached the NCAA Tournament.
- Ohio State officially leads the all-time series with Penn State 43-21, and that includes a 13-9 edge at the Bryce Jordan Center.
- The Buckeyes won 18 consecutive games in the series from 2004 to 2013. But since then, the Buckeyes hold a slight 14-9 edge, and the teams have split the last six meetings.
- Earlier this year, the Buckeyes took care of Penn State 84-78 on a snowy night in Columbus. John Mobley Jr. led the Buckeyes for the fourth consecutive game, making five three-pointers and finishing with 25 points and five assists. Taison Chatman came off the bench and scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Bruce Thornton scored a season-low nine points but also had five assists, zero turnovers and three steals.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a fun 82-74 victory over No. 8 Purdue on Sunday afternoon. Purdue took the lead early, but the Buckeyes used hot shooting to pull ahead and would lead for the final 28 minutes of the game. Mobley Jr. led all scorers with 21 points on five three-pointers. Bruce Thornton was right behind him with 20 points while Devin Royal added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Buckeyes shot 51.1 percent in the win.
- Thornton enters the final two games of the regular season just 29 points away from tying Dennis Hopson (1984-87) for the most points in program history. Thornton has scored 2,067 career points. He is averaging a career-best 20.0 ppg this season.
- Thornton is also just 13 rebounds away from becoming just the second Big Ten player to record 2,000 points, 500 assists and 500 rebounds. Penn State’s Talor Battle, who was an assistant coach at Ohio State last season, reached all three milestones in his career from 2008-11.
- Mobley Jr. has made 78 three-pointers on the season and is shooting a career-best 41.1 from beyond the arc. His 78 threes are third-most in the conference and his shooting percentage leads the league.
- Penn State hasn’t had the best of seasons but is coming off its first win over a projected NCAA Tournament team with its 71-69 win over Iowa last Saturday. Josh Reed led the Nittany Lions in the win with 25 points.
