McBrayer and Gordon Named Buckeye Captains

McBrayer is the second Central Ohio native to serve as a captain
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Seniors Ryan Gordon and Nathan McBrayer have been selected to serve as captains for the Ohio State men's hockey team in 2026-27. The tandem was determined by a team vote.
McBrayer, a defenseman from Dublin, Ohio, is the second Central Ohio native to wear the captain's C for the Scarlet and Gray, joining Austin Pooley (2020-21). McBrayer was an alternate captain as a junior last season when he had 10 points and 29 shot blocks in 36 games. He has appeared in 110 games over the last three years, notching eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points, along with 94 shot blocks. He is a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice.Â
"I'm truly honored to be a captain for this team," McBrayer said. "It's been a dream of mine ever since I was a kid and I can't wait to get the season started."
Gordon, who calls Stone Mountain, Ga., home, has seen action in 106 games as a forward for the Buckeyes, recording 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists. He had a career-high 18 assists and 23 points in 2025-26 while playing in all 37 games. Gordon is a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and AHCA Scholar All-American, as well as a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
"Attending Ohio State and being a member of this team has been the greatest privilege of my life," Gordon said. "Being voted captain is an honor and something I don't take lightly. I could not be more excited for this team and the direction we are headed this season."Â
Gordon, McBrayer and the Buckeyes begin the year Oct. 9-10 with a road series at RPI, followed by two games on the road at Sacred Heart Oct. 16-17. The home slate begins vs. Augustana Oct. 23-24, followed by a Big Ten series vs. No. 2 Michigan Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
Six-game mini plans will go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday and single-game tickets will be available beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 29. Single game tickets will start at $22 for public and $17 for senior/youth. Parking is free for all men's hockey games in the arena.
