Torres and Tyack Earn B1G Weekly Honors

Tandem led Buckeyes to win at Northwestern
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Kate Tyack and Jocelyn Torres of the Ohio State women's lacrosse team both were recognized with Big Ten weekly awards after leading the Buckeyes to a win at then-No. 4 Northwestern Sunday. Tyack was selected the B1G Offensive Player of the Week and Torres was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Week.
Tyack, from Dublin, Ohio, had a career-high six goals on just six shots, with the six points one shy of her career best. Against the Wildcats, she had a first quarter hat trick which included the 100th point of her Buckeye career. She scored late in the second and in the third to help fuel Buckeye comebacks in the eventual 16-15 win. She was also named the league's offensive player of the week April 2, 2024.
Torres, a native of Glenwood, Md., had 12 saves in the victory, including nine in the second half, with six in the fourth quarter. Her final save came with 21 seconds left and preserved a one-goal lead. Torres and the Buckeyes limited Northwestern to just five goals in the second half, allowing Ohio State to come from behind twice in the eventual 16-15 win.The 12 saves were tied for the fourth most in a game in her 60-game career. She is now a two-time B1G Defensive Player of the Week selection.
This week, Tyack, Torres and the Buckeyes host Rutgers at 6 p.m. Thursday, with the game televised by BTN. Admission and parking are free for all Ohio State regular season home games in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. Ohio State will then play at No. 8 Johns Hopkins at noon Sunday in Baltimore.Â
