COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior guard Bruce Thornton has earned All-Big Ten honors for the third consecutive season as he was named to the second team by both the conference’s head coaches and the media. Sophomore guard John Mobley Jr. was an honorable mention honoree by the media.
Thornton was also a second team honoree last season following a third team nod as a sophomore in 2024. The Fairburn, Ga., native is enjoying the best season of his career, averaging career highs of 20.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting a career-best 55.8 percent from the floor. Thornton is fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, fifth in assist/turnover ratio, fourth in field goal percentage, third in minutes and sixth in free throw percentage.
The first four-time captain in program history, Thornton has scored 623 points so far this season, which allowed him to surpass Dennis Hopson (1984-87) and become the program’s all-time leading scorer. He is at 2,110 points and counting.
Thornton is the 17th Buckeye to earn All-Big Ten honors three times and the first since Aaron Craft (2011, 13, 14).
Mobley Jr. has taken a step up in his sophomore season. He has continued to shoot the ball extremely well but is also second on the team with 77 assists and 23 steals. Mobley leads the Big Ten and is Top 20 nationally in three-point shooting, knocking down 42.4 percent of his shots from long range. Despite missing three games, he is third in the Big Ten with 89 three-pointers, which is tied for seventh-most in a single season in program history. He has nine games this season with five or more three-pointers made.
Thornton was also named the team’s Sportsmanship Award honoree. The honorees have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
