No. 2 Buckeyes Drop Series Finale at No. 1 Badgers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team fell to No. 1 Wisconsin, 4-1, in Sunday's regular season series finale between the teams at LaBahn Arena. The Buckeyes (26-4-0, 20-4-0 WCHA) split the road series against the Badgers (25-3-2, 19-3-2 WCHA).
Short Story
Both games of the series ended in 4-1 scores with Sunday's result in favor of Wisconsin. The Buckeyes held within one of the Badgers in the first and second periods, thanks to a goal from junior forward Kaia Malachino in the middle frame, but a pair of consecutive penalties in the third period proved costly as Wisconsin capitalized on both opportunities.
The loss is Ohio State's first in 12 games. The Buckeyes' last loss was against the Badgers in December.
Jocelyn Amos finished 13-10 at the faceoff dot to help the Buckeyes win the faceoff battle, 27-19. Amos, Sloane Matthews and Sara Swiderski led the team with two blocked shots each as the team finished the game with a season-high 14 blocks in the game.

How it Happened
- Wisconsin scored first with under five minutes remaining in the first period to take a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
- Both teams had two power play opportunities in the first period with the respective penalty kills successful on both.
- The Badgers added onto their lead 1:30 into the second period and 10 minutes later Kaia Malachino put Ohio State back within one. At 10:30 in the frame, she received a pass from Jocelyn Amos in the slot and sent the puck through the legs of Rhyah Stewart for the Buckeyes' lone goal of the game and her fourth goal of the season.
- The Badgers added two goals in the second period on the power play at 13:54 and 14:20 for the final score of 4-1.
- Ohio State went on the power play with 1:27 to play in the third and pulled goaltender Hailey MacLeod for the extra skater in a final effort to score, but couldn't find the back of the net.
