
Buckeyes Win 800 Free Relay Title on Night One of B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 Ohio State men's swimming and diving team won gold in the 800 free relay with the second-fastest time in the country on night one of the Big Ten Championships on Wednesday.
The Big Ten Championships opened with the 200 medley relay. The team of Joseph Roth, Ahmed Ismail, Matt Klinge and Rasmus Hanson placed fifth with an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 1:23.46.
The Buckeyes closed out night one of the Big Ten Championships winning the 800 free relay title. The team of Tomas Navikonis, Cornelius Jahn, Jordi Vilchez and Tristan Jankovics raced to a program record, and automatic NCAA qualifying time, of 6:06.64. The Buckeyes smashed the previously held record of 6:10.58, set by the same relay team at last year's conference championships. Their time is also the second-fastest time in the country this season and the Big Ten Championships meet record. The previous Big Ten meet record of 6:08.85 was set by Michigan in 2014.
After the first night of competition, the Buckeyes are in second place with 114 points, just two points behind first-place Michigan.
The Big Ten Championships continue Feb. 26-28. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. ET and finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET each day. All sessions will stream live on B1G+.
