Ohio State Knocks Off No. 1 Virginia, Moves to Finals at National Indoors

The Buckeyes improve to 8-5 all-time in ITA Indoor semifinals
COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 2 Ohio State defeated No. 1 Virginia for the second time this season in the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Team National Championship. The Buckeyes defeated the Cavaliers 5-2 in Columbus earlier this month and then 4-2 Monday in Dallas at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex at SMU.
The Buckeyes advance to the finals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against No. 6 seed Texas, a 4-0 winner over Baylor late Monday. Ohio State defeated then No. 5-ranked Texas (4-1) earlier this season in Columbus.
The win against Virginia marks Ohio State's eighth time making the ITA Indoor Team National Championship Final. The Buckeyes are 3-4 in the finals, becoming National Champions in 2014, 2019 and most recently in 2024.
Ohio State improves to 10-0 on the season, its first 10-0 start since 2024. The victory also marks the Buckeyes' fifth-consecutive win over Top 5 opponents this season in five of the last six outings (4-2 vs. No. 1 Virgina, 4-3 vs. No. 4 Stanford, 5-2 vs. No. 1 Virginia, 4-0 vs. No. 1 Wake Forest and 4-1 vs. No. 5 Texas).
Against the Cavaliers, Ohio State clinched the doubles point after wins on courts two and three. Jack Anthrop quickly put the Buckeyes up 2-0 with a singles win, until the Cavaliers battled to make it 3-2.
In a similar fashion to the match against Stanford Saturday, Aidan Kim clinched Ohio State's victory in the third set to advance the Buckeyes to the finals. It was Kim's second clinch of the day after winning in doubles and singles.

- All three doubles contests were rematches from the Buckeyes and Cavaliers match Feb. 7th.
- On court one, after being knotted at 2-all, Virginia won four-consecutive points to defeat Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo.
- No. 1 Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin continued their hot start to the season. They sprinted to a 5-0 lead and finished with a ranked 6-1 win over #23 Mans Dahlberg and Jangjun Kim.
- In the deciding match, Aidan Kim and Bryce Nakashima got out to a 2-0 lead and held strong, producing a 6-3 win and clinching the doubles point for the Buckeyes. Nakashima and Kim are now 6-2 in the dual season.
- There were five rematches in singles from Ohio State's 5-2 victory over Virginia earlier this season.
- The Buckeyes continued their momentum from doubles by winning four of six first sets.
- On court three, Jack Anthrop continued his hot tournament start in dominant fashion with a 6-2 set one win and a 6-3 set two win, giving Ohio State a 2-0 advantage. Anthrop got back at Andrés Santamarta Roig who defeated Anthrop last weekend in two sets.
- Bryce Nakashima battled to a tiebreaker on court four, but fell short in set one. In set two, Nakashima was defeated by No. 81 Jangjun Kim, putting the Cavaliers on the board, 3-1. The 7-6(3), 6-4 scoreline was very similar to Nakashima's win against Kim last weekend in a 6-4, 7-6(0) score.
- On court six, Nikita Filin remained undefeated in the tournament with a commanding 6-1 set one and a 7-5 set two win that improved the Buckeyes score to 3-1. It was Filin's fifth win of the tournament and third win in singles.
- In a close three set match, Loren Byers was outlasted by Virginia's Stiles Brockett on court five. Brockett's victory closed the Buckeye lead to 3-2.
- Aidan Kim went down a set after No. 2 Dylan Dietrich won 6-4. In the second set, Kim fell behind 5-4 and 6-5 yet stayed alive to force the tiebreaker. In an exciting tiebreaker, Kim defeated Dietrich 7-5 to advance to the third set. The match remained a close 4-all tie before heading into Dietrich's serve. On 40-40 Dietrich double-faulted, giving Kim a game advantage. With a trip to the finals in hand, Kim powered to a 40-0 lead and defeated Dietrich 6-4, clinching an Ohio State victory and advancing the Buckeyes to ITA Team Indoors Final.
- On court two, Preston Stearns went down 1-3 but won four-consecutive games in set one. He clinched a 6-4 set one win before falling short in a set two tiebreaker 6-7(2). The match remained close in the third set at 2-all before Kim clinched the victory.
