Buckeyes close out dual season at Maryland Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 2 Ohio State (17-1, 6-1) fell for the first time this season at No. 1 Penn State (13-0, 7-0), 36-5 Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center (16,006) in University Park, Pennsylvania.
125 - (1) Luke Lilledahl (PSU) def. (2) Nic Bouzakis (OSU), SV, 4-1
After a nice flurry of action, the opening period closed without a score by either wrestler. Bouzakis escaped to open the second for a 1-0 lead after two periods. Lilledahl evened the match with an escape to start the final period. The battle went to sudden victory after seven minutes. Lilledahl then got the winning takedown for a win by decision, 4-1.
133 - (4) Marcus Blaze (PSU) def. (2) Ben Davino (OSU), TB-2, 3-2
Again, neither wrestler was able to score in the opening period. Davino escaped in the second for the first point of the match and a 1-0 lead going to the third. Blaze got the tie with an escape. And again, the match went to sudden victory even at 1-all. There was no score in the extra two minutes sending the match to a tiebreaker. Davino started on bottom in the first tiebreaker and escaped quickly. Needing to overcome nine seconds of riding time, Davino gave up a reversal to fall, 3-2.
141 - (1) Jesse Mendez (OSU) def. (12) Braeden Davis (PSU), TF, 19-2
Mendez got the first takedown of the match for a 3-0 lead after the opening three minutes. Mendez added a point with a quick escape. Mendez added a takedown and three-point nearfall for a 10-0 lead. Davis escaped before Mendez took Davis down with additional back points for a 15-1 advantage. Davis escaped to open the third. Mendez then got the win by technical fall, 18-2.
149 - (1) Shayne Van Ness (PSU) def. Brogan Fielding (OSU), TF, 20-5
Van Ness opened the scoring with a takedown to lead 3-0 after the first. After a Fielding escape, Van Ness earned two more takedowns for a 9-3 lead. Penn State led 13-3 after five minutes. Van Ness finished off the match for a win by technical fall, 20-5.
157 - (4) PJ Duke (PSU) def. Daxton Chase (OSU), F, 3:28
Duke came out of the gates quickly with a pair of takedowns for a 6-1 lead. Duke added two more takedowns to go up 12-3. Going to the second with a 15-4 lead, Duke then finished off the match with a fall at 3:28.
165 - (1) Mitchell Mesenbrink (PSU) def. (16) Paddy Gallagher (OSU), MD, 12-2
Mesenbrink scored a quick takedown and added a point after a stalling call against Gallagher to lead 4-0 after three minutes. Mesenbrink escaped to start the second and added a late takedown for an 8-0 lead after five minutes. Mesenbrink finished of the bout to win by major decision, 12-2.
174 – (1) Levi Haines (PSU) def. T.J. Schierl (OSU), TF, 16-1.
Haines led 8-1 after the opening period. Early in the second period, Haines took a 16-1 lead to get the win by technical fall.
184 - (1) Rocco Welsh (PSU) def. (8) Dylan Fishback (OSU), D, 7-6
Fishback opened the scoring with a takedown and finished the period with 92 seconds of riding time. Fishback started from bottom and escaped early in the second for a 4-0 lead after five minutes. Welsh tied it with an escape and takedown at 4-all. Welsh added another takedown after a Fishback escape to win by decision, 7-6.
197 - (1) Josh Barr (PSU) def. (10) Luke Geog (OSU), MD, 11-2
Barr scored first with a takedown with just over two minutes gone in the opening period. Barr added an escape point early in the second before another takedown made it 7-0. Geog added an escape point to open the third. Barr countered with a takedown and then finished with the win
HWT - (12) Cole Mirasola (PSU) def. (3) Nick Feldman (OSU), SV, 4-1
There was no score after three minutes. Feldman started the scoring with an escape in the second. Feldman got in on a shot and Mirasola countered but neither wrestler was credited with a takedown. Mirasola tied it at 1-all with an escape in the third. The match went to sudden victory and got the winning takedown to win by decision, 4-1.
