COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team used the doubles point and three straight-set singles victories to defeat No. 15 Virginia, 4-0, Sunday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus. Ohio State is 2-0 on the year, with the Cavaliers 6-2.

The Buckeyes captured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two against Top 10-ranked opponents. The tandems of Teah Chavez and Hephzibah Oluwadare and Luciana Perry and Flora Johnson posted the doubles victories for a 1-0 Ohio State lead. In singles, Nao Nishino, Flora Johnson and Perry all won in straight sets for the nonconference victory.

How it Happened

Virgina claimed the first doubles match with a 6-1 court three win.
On court one, Teah Chavez and Hephzibah Oluwadare took on No. 9-ranked Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang. A four-game run gave the Buckeyes a 5-2 lead en route to a 6-3 win.
The duo of Luciana Perry and Flora Johnson downed No. 10-ranked Annabelle Xu and Martina Genis Salas for the doubles point. The Buckeyes won the final two games on the no-ad point, breaking for the 6-2 victory.
In singles, Ohio State won five of the first six singles sets.
No. 58-ranked Nao Nishino put the Buckeyes up 2-0, as she defeated No. 52 Genis Salas, 6-3, 6-0, winning the last eight games.
Johnson followed, downing Kaitlyn Rolls on court six, 6-2, 6-4, breaking for the win to close a three-game run.
Perry, ranked 10th, clinched the team victory as she topped No. 30 Yang on court one. Perry took the first set 6-2 and came back from down a break to win the second, 6-3, winning the last three games.
When the team match was clinched, Chavez and Spencer were up a set on courts two and four, respectively, with Spencer holding three match points. Oluwadare dropped her first set but was on serve in the second.

The Schedule Ahead

Ohio State earned one of 16 spots in the ITA Team Indoor Championship.
The opening rounds will be held Friday-Sunday (Feb. 6-8) in Champaign and Evanston, Ill., with Ohio State heading to Champaign.
Two teams from each site will advance to the semifinals Feb. 9, with the final Feb. 10.
Northwestern will serve as the host for the final two rounds.
The Buckeyes' next home match is against No. 9 NC State at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Admission and parking are free.
