COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State returns home Tuesday for one of its biggest matches of the season, hosting No. 2 Indiana at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in a matchup featuring two programs seeking momentum as the Big Ten race enters its final stretch.
The Buckeyes enter the contest at 6-4-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play after a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Michigan State last Friday.
Indiana arrives in Columbus with an 11-1-2 overall record and a 4-1-1 mark in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers spent much of the season unbeaten before suffering their first loss of the year last week at Rutgers. Despite that defeat, Indiana remains among the nation's elite teams and enters the week ranked No. 2 nationally.
The matchup features two of the conference's most productive offenses. Ohio State has scored 26 goals in 12 matches, averaging more than two goals per game. The Buckeyes have received contributions throughout the lineup, led by Martin Wurschmidt's five goals and three game-winning tallies. Aaron Hurge has added three goals and four assists, while Nyle Waugh has three goals of his own. Isaiah Chisolm also remains one of the team's most dangerous attacking threats after a blistering start to the season.
The challenge becomes even greater against an Indiana defense that has been among the nation's stingiest units. The Hoosiers have allowed just eight goals all season and carry a team goals-against average below 0.60. Goalkeeper Michal Mroz has anchored the back line, recording five shutouts while posting one of the best save percentages in the conference.
Offensively, Indiana is powered by one of the Big Ten's most dangerous attackers in Oliver Moller-Jensen. The Hoosier forward leads the team with 10 goals and 24 points while helping Indiana average more than 2.2 goals per match. Easton Bogard, Collins Oduro and Stephane Njike have also played significant roles in a balanced attack that has produced 31 goals this season.
For Ohio State, Tuesday provides another opportunity to showcase the progress the program has made this year. The Buckeyes opened the season with an unbeaten six-match stretch and own notable wins over Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Memphis and DePaul. A victory over Indiana would not only strengthen their postseason résumé but would also provide a boost heading into the final weeks of conference play.
Kickoff is set for Tuesday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium as the Buckeyes look to defend home turf against the second-ranked team in the nation.
