Buckeyes Take on No. 1 Michigan in Columbus This Weekend

Teams wrap up regular season series
The Basics
- The Ohio State men's hockey team hosts No. 1 Michigan in a Big Ten series this weekend.
- The teams will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday in the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
- Both games will be streamed by B1G+.Â
- Ohio State Radio will carry the action (1460 AM Columbus, WBNS-FM-HD2, streamed on espncolumbus.com and OhioStateBuckeyes.com and on the Ohio State Buckeyes app).Â

- Ohio State is 8-13-1 on the year (4-8, 12 points Big Ten) and is coming off a split at Notre Dame last week (W 4-2, L 1-6). Michigan is 20-4 overall (11-3, 31 points B1G) and was off last weekend. The squad last played Jan. 16-17, posting a sweep at Minnesota (5-1, 3-2 OT).
- Fans are encouraged to Wear Scarlet to each game vs. the Wolverines this weekend.
- Friday there will be a Brutus Trapper Hat giveaway for the first 500 Ohio State students.Â
- Saturday includes a scarlet THE towel giveaway for the first 1,500 fans.Â
- Parking is free for all home games in the Schottenstein Center.
- Group and single game tickets can be purchased online through OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Â Following this weekend, the Buckeyes have four regular season home games remaining - Feb. 13-14 vs. Wisconsin and March 5-6 vs. Notre Dame.
- The series against the Badgers features Pucks 'n Paws Night, Dollar Dog Day, Skate and Date and a postgame skate.
- The Buckeyes are scoring 2.91 goals per game this season, allowing 3.50 a contest.Â
- The power play is 14th nationally, converting 23.8 percent of its chances. The penalty kill has stopped 76.5 percent of its opponents' opportunities. Ohio State averages 11.73 penalty minutes a game.Â
- The Buckeyes are ninth nationally in faceoff winning percentage (.533).
- Jake Karabela is first on the team with 19 points, followed by Davis Burnside and Felix Caron with 17 each. Â
- Adam Eisele and Max Montes lead the team with nine goals and Burnside and Riley Thompson each have eight.
- Karabela has a team-high 14 assists and Ryan Gordon and Broten Sabo are tied for second with 11 helpers.Â
- Burnside leads the current Buckeye squad with 97 career points (45g, 52a), ranking tied for 10th among current NCAA skaters. Â
- Ohio State and Michigan faced off for the first time in 1964 and after games in 1969-70, 1974-75 and 1978-79, have met at least once each season since 1981-82 when Michigan joined Ohio State in the CCHA.
- The Wolverines lead the all-time series, 100-53-16, including 42-28-8 in Columbus.
- The squads met in Ann Arbor Nov. 21-22, with the Wolverines winning 5-2 and 8-1.Â
- In Columbus last season (Feb. 27-28, 2025), the Buckeyes won 2-1 in overtime on a William Smith goal in game one before Michigan took game two, 4-3.Â
- Davis Burnside leads the current Buckeyes with 15 games played against Michigan, ranking first with four assists and five points vs. the Wolverines. Max Montes has scored four goals vs. UM while playing in 10 games. Thomas Weis has also played 10 games against Michigan and has two goals and three points. Riley Thompson has a 2-2-4 line in six games vs. the Wolverines.
- Michigan is 20-4 on the year and shares the Big Ten lead with Penn State with 31 points each. The Wolverines are 11-3-0 in league games.Â
- The Wolverines are first in the nation in scoring offense (4.83 goals per game) and scoring margin (+2.75) and second on the power play (.308). The team is fourth nationally in scoring defense (2.08 goals allowed per game). The squad is second in the NCAA in penalty minutes per game (18.54) and the penalty kill has stopped 79.7 percent of its opponents' chances. T.J. Hughes (1.42) and Michael Hage (1.33) rank in the Top 10 in the NCAA in points per game and Will Horcoff is third in goals per game (.79).
- Ohio State will play two games at Minnesota next weekend, with puck drop at 8 p.m. ET Feb. 6 and 9 p.m. ET Feb. 7. B1G+ will stream game one and BTN will televise game two. Ohio State Radio will carry both games of the series.
- The Buckeyes will be back in Columbus to host No. 8/7 Wisconsin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 and at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14. Game one vs. the Badgers is Dollar Dog Night with $1 hot dogs and it is Pucks 'n Paws Night when fans can purchase a ticket to bring their furry friend to the game). Game two vs. Wisconsin is Skate & Date, featuring a free postgame skate (fans must bring their own skates).Â
