COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State returns home looking to bounce-back on Monday night when the Buckeyes host Penn State in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will televised on FS1. Jeff Levering and LaPhonso Ellis will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- Ohio State officially leads the all-time series with Penn State 42-21, and that includes a 16-2 at the Schottenstein Center.
- The Buckeyes won 18 consecutive games in the series from 2004 to 2013. But since then, the Buckeyes hold a slight 13-9 edge and the teams have split the last six meetings.
- Last year, the Buckeyes took control early and rolled to an 83-64 victory at Penn State on Jan. 30, 2025 inside Rec Hall. John Mobley Jr. led the way with 19 points and matched his season-highs with eight assists and five rebounds. Bruce Thornton tied his career-high with five three-pointers as part of a 17-point effort. Devin Royal led the team with eight rebounds and finished with 15 points.
- Monday’s game will feature a pair of guys who were on the other side last year. Ohio State’s Puff Johnson played last year at Penn State, averaging 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17 games. Penn State assistant coach Talor Battle was an assistant coach at Ohio State last season.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a 74-62 setback at No. 3 Michigan on Friday night. They battled deep into the second half but a late run by the Wolverines put the game away. John Mobley Jr. continued his solid play as he led the team with 22 points on 4-of-9 from long range. Christoph Tilly added 17 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Mobley Jr. has averaged 4.0 three-point makes over the last eight games, which has included two stretches of three-consecutive games of 4-or-more three-point makes. He’s just the second Buckeye with multiple streaks in the same season, joining Jon Diebler from the 2009-10 season.
- Bruce Thornton is just 10 points away from tying Michael Redd (1998-00) for sixth on the program’s all-time scoring list. Thornton has scored 1,869 career points and is coming off a season-low 10 points last Friday at Michigan. Chances are good for a “get back to normal” game on Monday.
- Penn State comes to town looking for its first Big Ten win of the season. The Nittany Lions are 9-10 overall on the year but have lost all eight conference games. They are coming off a 98-71 setback to Wisconsin at home inside Rec Hall last Thursday night.
