Buckeyes Set to Host ITA Kickoff Weekend Matches

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12 Ohio State women's tennis team will serve as an ITA Kickoff Weekend host site this weekend. The event opens the dual match season for the Buckeyes.

Admission and parking are free for all matches, which will be held in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Buckeyes will face Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a match between Georgia Tech and UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. Sunday, the consolation match is slated for 9 a.m., with the championship scheduled for noon. The site winner will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, held Feb. 6-9 in Evanston and Champaign, Ill.

Ohio State and the Columbus Teams
- Iowa is 2-1 this season, after road wins over Furman and NC Central and a loss to No. 8 Duke last weekend.
- The Buckeyes are 29-23 all-time vs. Iowa but have won the last 10 matches between the teams. The squads last met April 12, 2024, in Iowa City, a 4-1 Buckeye victory. The teams will face off in a Big Ten Conference match April 5 on Iowa's home courts.
- Georgia Tech is 1-1 on the year, with a 7-0 home win over Georgia State and a 6-1 road loss to No. 4 Auburn.
- The series between the Buckeyes and Yellow Jackets is tied at five wins each. The last meeting was a 4-3 Buckeye victory in Stillwater, Okla., in consolation play at the 2021 ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The teams met in Atlanta in 2019 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend first round, with Ohio State winning 4-0 over the host Yellow Jackets.
- UC Santa Barbara is 1-1 this spring, with a 4-1 loss at No. 19 USC and 4-3 home win against Utah. Â
- Ohio State and the Gauchos have never met on the tennis court.
The Buckeyes and ITA Kickoff Weekend
- This is the seventh time, and the fifth time in the last six years, Ohio State is serving as an ITA Kickoff Weekend site. The squad hosted in 2017 and '18 and then each year from 2021-2024.
- Ohio State is 11-1 at home in ITA Kickoff Weekend matches, advancing each year except 2018 when the Buckeyes lost to Wake Forest, 4-2.
- All-time, Ohio State is 20-10 in ITA Kickoff Weekend action, advancing to ITA National Team Indoors eight times in 15 appearances.
- Last year, the Buckeyes traveled to Tennessee for ITA Kickoff Weekend. Ohio State won in the first round vs. NC State, 4-1, before falling to the host Lady Vols, 4-3, in the championship.
- Ohio State is one of 14 host sites around the country. The Top 14 teams from the previous season are hosts for the following year, with a draft held in the summer to determine the matchups.

- The Buckeyes were No. 13 in the first ITA Coaches Poll of the season and are No. 12 this week.
- In the singles rankings released following the fall, four Buckeyes were ranked in singles, with two ranked doubles teams. Luciana Perry is No. 10 in singles, with Teah Chavez No. 14, Nao Nishino No. 68 and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev No. 91.
- Perry and Chavez are ranked 29th in doubles and the tandem of Audrey Spencer and Nishino is 65th.
- The next set of singles and doubles rankings will be released Feb. 4.
The Schedule Ahead
- Ohio State will host No. 14 Virginia at 11 a.m. Feb. 1.
- The Buckeyes will then be back home to take on No. 11 NC State at 6 p.m. Feb. 13.
