Cambridge became the first Buckeye in 10 seasons and the fourth Buckeye in program history to score 40 or more points in a game last Wednesday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Atlanta Tipoff Club and Naismith Awards announced their weekly women's basketball awards on Monday. Ohio State sophomore guard Jaloni Cambridge was named Naismith Player of the Week. This is her first time earning this honor.
Â
Cambridge had the best week of her collegiate career as the Buckeyes went 2-0 on the road last week, handing Illinois and Maryland their first home losses of the season. Cambridge averaged 34.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Â
She began the week with a career-high 41 points in the win at Illinois – becoming the first Buckeye to score 40 points in a game against a Big Ten opponent since Kelsey Mitchell totaled 43 against Rutgers on March 4, 2016. Cambridge is just the fourth player in program history to score 40 or more points in a game, joining Mitchell, Samantha Prahalis and Katie Smith. Cambridge added six rebounds, six assists and two steals as she made a career-high 15 field goals in the game.
Â
In the Buckeyes' first top 10 win of the season at No. 8 Maryland, Cambridge led the game with 28 points and added a career-high nine rebounds, tied her career-high eight assists and totaled two steals (including the 100th steal of her career). She was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. She recorded her 800th career point in Sunday's game – the 46th game of her collegiate career.
Â
This season, Cambridge is third in the league in scoring (21.2), tied third in steals (2.4 spg) and fourth in field goals made per game (8.3). She's scored in double figures in all 17 games.
