
No. 1 Ohio State Cruises in 70-0 Win Against Grambling State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 1 Ohio State (2-0) scored 35 points in each half and cruised to a 70-0 win over visiting Grambling State (1-1) Saturday at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes had 651 yards in total offense with 377 coming through the air. Julian Sayin completed 18-of-19 passes for 306 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half. Jeremiah Smith finished with five catches, 119 yards and two scores to lead the receiving corps. The Buckeyes rushed for 274 yards with Bo Jackson leading the way with 108 yards gained on nine carries. Ohio State remains in Columbus to face Ohio University next Saturday (7 p.m.). The game will be available on Peacock.
First Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 21, Grambling State 0
Ohio State won the pregame coin toss and elected to receive. Julian Sayin quarterbacked the Buckeyes quickly into Grambling State territory on a short pass to Jeremiah Smith before a 47-yard touchdown pass over the middle to tight end Will Kacmarek for a 7-0 lead. The play was the longest from scrimmage for the Buckeyes this season. The opening drive covered 83 yards on six plays while using two minutes, 16 seconds. Sayin completed all four passing attempts, each to a different receiver, for 71 yards on the opening drive. The Tigers began from their 25 after a touchback. C’zavian Teasett started under center and moved the Tigers to their 43 before a Johnny Schifano punt went 45 yards to the OSU13.
On the first play of Ohio State’s next possession, Sayin found Smith down the left sideline for an 87-yard touchdown and a 14-0 Ohio State lead. Following another touchback delivered by Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding, Grambling managed to gain just a yard before another punt, this time a 39-yard effort gathered by Brandon Inniss at the OSU35. After consecutive touchdown passes, Sayin handed to James Peoples for a gain of 12 yards over the right side for 12 yards. Sayin then found tight end Jelani Thurman for a gain of 26 yards over the middle to the GSU27. After a gain of 6 on a Smith reception, Sayin connected with his third tight end, Max Klare, for 7 yards to the Tigers14. The Buckeyes moved to the GSU8 on another catch by Kacmarek. Two plays later. Sayin hit Carnell Tate for a 13-yard touchdown to the left front corner of the endzone for a 21-0 lead. It was Sayin’s 10th-consecutive completion (218 yards) and third touchdown pass of the game.
Grambling earned a first down out to their 41 after a 9-yard rush by Tre Bradford on its next possession. The Tigers, on fourth-and-1 at the 50, gained 19 yards on a rush by Andre Crews to the OSU31. The quarter ended after a 6-yard reception to Tyson George to the OSU25.



Second Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 35, Grambling State 0
An Ohio State off-side penalty moved the Tigers to the OSU20 to start the quarter. Grambling stalled at the OSU19 before a 36-yard field goal attempt went wide right. Sayin moved the Buckeyes quickly deep into Grambling territory before Smith found the endzone again, this time a 9-yard reception for the score to make it 28-0 Buckeyes. Sayin remained perfect (15-15) in the pass game for 289 yards. The big play of the drive, which covered 80-yards on six plays, was a 40-yard reception by Tate.
Grambling started at its 16 after a 14-yard kickoff return. The Buckeyes got the ball right back after Caleb Downs intercepted Teasett at the Tigers 21. Peoples got the call on Ohio State’s first play and carried 9 yards to the GSU12. He ran the next two plays down to the GSU6. Two plays later, Sayin was intercepted by Grambling’s Ryrell Taby and their 1. The Tigers moved to their 22 after a 19-yard reception by Keith Jones Jr. to the right sideline. Teasett ran for 11 yards on the next play to the GSU33. Grambling stalled at the OSU36 and after a formation penalty, Inniss returned a 39-yard punt to the OSU38 after an 8-yard return.
Sayin guided the Buckeyes to the GSU8 after a 28-yard rush by CJ Donaldson just before the two-minute timeout. Three plays later, Donaldson then found the endzone on a 2-yard rush up the middle for a 35-0 lead. Sayin finished the first half completing 18-of-19 passes for 306 yards and four touchdowns. Smith and Tate each had five catches with Smith recording 119 yards and two scores. The Buckeyes had 393 yards of offense at the break.



Third Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 56, Grambling State 0
On the first play of the half after a touchback, a Grambling fumble was recovered by Ohio State’s Riley Pettijohn and returned 23 yards for a touchdown for a 42-0 lead just 10 seconds into the third quarter. With Ashton Frye in at quarterback for the Tigers, Grambling drove to their 41 before a 35-yard punt gave the Buckeyes possession at the OSU24. Lincoln Kienholz took over at quarterback for the Buckeyes and rushed for 2 yards for a first down to the OSU44. He then went to work through the air finding Bryson Rodgers for 21 yards to the GSU 11. Bo Jackson then rushed up the middle for an 11-yard touchdown to make it 49-0 Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes got the ball back on a fumble forced by Pettijohn and recovered by Epi Sitanilei at the GSU41. Kienholz drove Ohio State to the OSU12 before Isaiah West rushed up the middle for a touchdown to make it 56-0 Buckeyes. Ohio State got the ball back after Grambling was forced to punt from its 15. A Schifano 38-yard punt went out of bounds at the OSU47 with 4:19 left in the quarter. The Buckeyes kept it on the ground on its next possession before a completion to Jelani Thurman for 14 yards to the GSU12. The quarter ended with Ohio State facing a fourth-and-2 at the GSU4.



Fourth Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 70, Grambling State 0
Kienholz opened the final quarter with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Thurman in the back of the endzone for a 63-0 lead after a Jackson Courville kick. The Buckeyes got the ball back again after a 50-yard Schifano punt to the OSU13. With Tavien St. Clair in at quarterback for the Buckeyes, Ohio State drove to the OSU 26 before Nick McLarty entered for the first punt of the game for the Buckeyes. He delivered a 45-yard boot to the OSU23. The Tigers were stopped at the GSU38 and punted it away, giving the Buckeyes the ball at their 16.
Jackson took over the ground game for the Buckeyes with a 51 run over the right side to the GSU26. West then rushed three times down to the OSU13 for a first down at the two-minute timeout. After a Grambling State offsides penalty and a formation penalty by the Buckeyes, Jackson rushed for 10 yards to the GSU3. Sam Dixon then shed a tackle and got the GSU1 before taking it in for the score to make it 70-0 Buckeyes.
