Buckeyes and Golden Gophers kick off at 7:30 p.m. live on NBC
FIRST AND TEN
- No. 1/1 Ohio State (4-0; 1-0 Big Ten) hosts the Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-1; 1-0 Big Ten) Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff that NBC will televise to a national audience.
- This weekend is Ohio State's 113th Homecoming.
- Ten former Ohio State greats will be inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend.
- Ohio State has won 12 consecutive games over the Golden Gophers, 28 of the last 29 and 40 of the last 42 dating back to 1969.
- The Buckeyes come into the game first nationally in scoring defense (5.5), first in red zone defense (29 pct.) and No. 8 in total defense (229.3).
- Offensively, the team is averaging 445.8 yards per game (33rd) and 36.3 points per game (36th).
- RS freshman QB Julian Sayin is No. 1 nationally with a 78.8 completion percentage and he is  No. 4 with a QB rating of 189.81.
- The Minnesota game is Ohio State's only home game between Sept. 13, the last of three consecutive home games to start the season, and Nov. 1, the matchup against Penn State.Â
- Ohio State's 1975 Big Ten champion team will be honored this week on its 50th Anniversary.         Â
BY THE NUMBERS
O-H: Ohio State's starting offensive line is comprised of 80 pct. Ohioans: LT Austin Siereveld (Liberty Township), LG Luke Montgomery (Findlay) and RG Tegra Tshabola and RT Phillip Daniels (each from Cincinnati).
13-0: The Buckeyes are 13-0 in games when Caden Curry is credited with a tackle-for-loss. The 44-game veteran enters the Minnesota game this week with career numbers of 16.5 TFLs and 9.5 QB sacks.Â
Bo!: This research project took some time, and we're glad we took it: true freshman Bo Jackson is the first Buckeye to rush for 100 yards in his first two games (108 yards vs. Grambling; 109 vs. Ohio U.).
.882: A win this week vs. Minnesota will raise Ryan Day's career winning percentage to .882, topping the all-time best career win percentage in major college history: .881 by Knute Rockne (Notre Dame, 1918-30).
THE NATION NOTICES CURRY
- DE Caden Curry picked up three major player of the week honors after his outstanding game in the win at Washington: Walter Camp PoW, the Maxwell Club's Bednarik PoW and from the Big Ten Conference.Â
- Curry recorded personal bests of 11 tackles, nine solo tackles, five tackles-for-loss and three quarterback sacks as Ohio State limited the Huskies to 234 yards of total offense.
OHIO STATE VS. MINNESOTA
- The series between the two programs started in 1921 and through the first 12 games Ohio State only held a 7-5 edge in wins after Minnesota won the 1966 game, 17-7.
- It's been 40-2 in games won by Ohio State since with winning streaks of 12, 16 and 12 games. (Note: the 2010 Ohio State win is not included in these records or stats.)
BUCKEYES/GOPHERS: STATS AND STUFF
- P.J. Fleck was hired by Jim Tressel to be an offensive GA with Ohio State in 2006 and to work with the team's tight ends and assist with special teams.
- The last Minnesota coach to defeat Ohio State: 1970 Ohio State letterman and eight-year (1978-85) Ohio State assistant coach Glen Mason. His Minnesota team prevailed, 29-17, in 2000.
- Mason was 64-57 in 10 years (1997-2006) coaching the Golden Gophers.
- Eddie George's 87-yard run at Minnesota in 1995 and J.T. Barrett's 86-yard run at Minnesota in 2014 are the second- and third-longest rushes in Ohio State history.
- A few additional notes from that 2014 game because it was a close win (31-24) in a national championship season: it was played in bitter cold, 15-degree weather … CB coach Kerry Coombs wore short sleeves during the game and caught a cold … a Minnesota staffer enjoyed an ice cream bar on the sidelines.
THREE OF NEXT FOUR ON THE ROAD
- Ohio State is in the midst of playing three of its first four Big Ten Conference games on the road.
- The streak started last week at Washington and, following this week's game vs. Minnesota, will continue when the team travels in consecutive weeks to No. 23 Illinois (4-1) and to Wisconsin (2-2).
- This is the third time a Ryan Day-coached team will play three of its first four conference games on the road.
- The Buckeyes also did so in 2019 and 2021 and went 4-0 in those games each year.
BEST, FEWEST & SECOND-MOST
- Since the start of the College Football Playoff era in 2014, Ohio State has …
- The best winning percentage at .887, 133-17; Alabama is second at .880, 139-19;
- The fewest losses with 17 (Alabama, 19); &
- The second-most wins with 133; Alabama has 139 and is followed by Ohio State, Clemson (130) and Georgia (128).
BILLY PRICE: HALL OF FAMER
- National champion and Rimington Award winner Billy Price headlines a class of 10 former Buckeyes who will be enshrined into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend.
- Price was a two-time All-American and a two-time team captain who set the school record with 55 consecutive starts and provided the final block in Ezekiel Elliott's infamous "85-yards through the heart of the south" run in the 2015 Sugar Bowl / CFP semifinals vs. Alabama.
