COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scored three second-half goals, paced by a pair from junior Ava Bramblett, and the Buckeyes downed Illinois 3-0 in Champaign on Sunday afternoon.
The win keeps the Buckeyes undefeated in Big Ten play and improves their overall record to 5-1-5 on the season.
With the shutout, Ohio State has now held its opponents without a goal for 678:16 minutes, marking the second-longest streak in program history.
This was Bramblett’s first multi-goal game of her career and she now has nine career goals. Britt notched her second goal as a Buckeye and the sixth of her career.
Ohio State and Illinois traded early chances with both goalkeepers tested inside the opening six minutes. Jadin Bonham forced Izzy Lee into a save less than a minute in, while Molly Pritchard denied Sarah Foley shortly after to keep the match level.
Illinois generated pressure through a pair of early corners and multiple first-half shots, but the Buckeye defense held firm. On the other end, Ohio State found its rhythm midway through the half, with Mia McSweeney and Sydney Bering pushing attempts just wide before Ava Greco forced a save in the 43rd minute.
The Buckeyes broke through in the 56th minute when Bramblett headed home a cross from Berkley Mape, giving Ohio State a 1–0 lead. The highlight of the match came in the 74th minute. After briefly coming off the field, Bramblett subbed back in and immediately delivered an incredible strike. Off a quick build starting from a Pritchard goal kick, Bramblett collected a pass from Tumilty just past midfield and launched a long-range shot over the head of the Illinois goalkeeper, who was caught off her line. The ball sailed cleanly into the net, doubling Ohio State’s lead at 2–0.
Just two minutes later, Ohio State added a third goal. Britt scored a fantastic goal off an assist from Amanda Schlueter, finishing a well-orchestrated attack to make it 3–0. Pritchard continued to stand tall in goal, denying Sarah Foley’s shot in the 78th minute and preserving the shutout.
