How are you connected to the military?
In my immediate family, 5 out of the 6 of us have served or are serving in the Army, collectively contributing over 80 years of service. My dad, a Brigadier General; my mom, a Sergeant; my brothers—a Major and a Captain; and myself, a First Lieutenant—have all experienced the demands of military life. Between us, we have completed numerous deployments, which have brought both challenges and a deep sense of purpose to our lives.
How has having someone in the military shaped your understanding of military life and sacrifice?
Growing up in a military family, I’ve come to understand that service goes beyond wearing a uniform—it’s a lifestyle defined by discipline, resilience, and putting others before oneself. The sacrifices involve much more than being away from home; it’s the emotional toll, the missed milestones, and the constant readiness to serve. It has taught me that sacrifice isn’t just a duty—it’s a profound act of love for one’s country and the people who depend on us

Can you share any specific moments you've experienced as a family member or friend of someone in the military that has helped shape your path?
One moment that stands out was during my dad’s deployment when he was not around for quite some time. While it was difficult, it underscored the immense commitment required in military service. Seeing my mom step up to fill the void and continued to raise her four young sons strong showed me the importance of teamwork and resilience. It inspired me to follow in their footsteps and embody those same values in my own career and life.
What aspects of military life have surprised you the most through your connection with someone who serves?
What surprises me most is how deeply intertwined the military community is. Despite the challenges and separations, the support systems—both formal and informal—are incredibly strong. The camaraderie and shared experiences create bonds that are as enduring as family ties. I’ve also been surprised by how adaptable military families are, constantly adjusting to new environments, roles, and expectations with remarkable grace.
How has your relationship with this military member influenced your views on service and patriotism?
Being surrounded by military service has made me deeply appreciate the value of selflessness and the responsibility we all have to serve in our own way. My family’s dedication has instilled in me a profound respect for those who dedicate their lives to protecting our freedoms. Patriotism, to me, is about recognizing the privilege of those freedoms and contributing to the greater good, whether in uniform or in civilian life.
What does Our Honor Defend mean to you?
"Our Honor Defend" is a reminder of the values we hold dear—integrity, loyalty, and service. To me, it means standing up for what’s right and honoring the sacrifices of those who came before us. It’s a commitment to live a life of purpose, where actions reflect the honor of those who have served and continue to serve.
